Lamar Consolidated ISD Welcomes Students to Two Brand New Schools

August 20 2024

Lamar Consolidated ISD started off this school year with the exciting addition of two new schools, both situated within communities developed by Johnson Development Company. The two new establishments, Melton Elementary and Randle Elementary, join over 25 others that already flourish within Johnson community properties.

Melton Elementary, the first school to be situated on-site in Jordan Ranch, provides a state-of-the-art educational environment for roughly 750 students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. The school, named in honor of Willie Melton, a Black farmer and Civil Rights pioneer, is not just about academics, but also encourages creative growth with its music room and art and science classrooms. Students, identified by their manta ray mascot, also enjoy a gymnasium and an outdoor learning terrace.

Randle Elementary, Lamar CISD's first school in Cross Creek Ranch, makes its own impressive mark with its 109,645 square feet of space, housing a library, classrooms, cafeteria, gym, and more. This school carries not just the moniker of the Raptors but also the powerful motto, "Hear Us Roar". Named after Viola Gilmore Randle, Fulshear’s first Black mayor, the school carries forward her legacy of community leadership.

The school expansion does not end here. Another Lamar CISD campus, Haygood Elementary, is under construction in Cross Creek West and is predicted to open its doors to students by fall 2025. Named after local LCISD teachers and community volunteers, James “Dick” Richard and Marinella Haygood, the school marks the first educational establishment on-site in Cross Creek West.

Furthermore, earlier this year, the school district secured 100 acres within Cross Creek West for two additional schools, expected to be operational by August 2027, as part of the 2022 bond referendum.
