Lakes on Eldridge Welcomes New Swan, Julie, After Loss of Beloved Juliet

September 03 2025

Lakes on Eldridge neighbors have a new feathered friend gliding across the water. This week, the community welcomed Julie, a mute swan, who has been introduced to the lake following the recent passing of Juliet.

Mute swans have long been a cherished part of the neighborhood’s character, bringing both beauty and a sense of tradition to daily walks and lake views. For many residents, the swans are more than wildlife—they are woven into the rhythms of community life, often sparking conversations among neighbors and delighting children who stop to watch them paddle by.

Julie’s arrival continues the legacy of Juliet, who had become a familiar and beloved presence over the years. While her passing left a noticeable void, the introduction of Julie offers residents a way to celebrate that bond while looking ahead to new memories.

Watch Julie make her debut into Lakes on Eldridge in the video below!

About Mute Swans

Mute swans are among the largest and most recognizable waterfowl in the world, easily identified by their elegant white plumage, long necks, and orange bills with a black knob at the base. Native to Europe and parts of Asia, they were introduced to North America in the late 1800s and have since become a symbol of grace on lakes and ponds.

These swans are primarily herbivores, feeding on aquatic plants, grasses, and algae. They are known for their calm, gliding movements on the water, but they can also be territorial—especially during nesting season. For this reason, it’s important for residents to admire Julie from a distance, avoid feeding her human food, and give her plenty of space if she is nesting or preening along the shoreline.

Caring for Julie and Her Legacy

As the seasons shift, residents will be watching Julie settle in, embracing her as part of the neighborhood family. With care and respect for her habitat, neighbors can help her flourish while carrying forward the long tradition of swans that make Lakes on Eldridge such a special place.
