Katy Rallies for Veterans This June: Police Department Launches 'SOS for VETS' Fundraiser for Camp Hope
This June, the City of Katy is coming together with one mission: to stand by its veterans. The Katy Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team has launched “SOS for VETS,” a community-wide fundraiser supporting Camp Hope, a residential treatment facility operated by the PTSD Foundation of America. The initiative coincides with PTSD Awareness Month, a national observance dedicated to increasing understanding and support for those affected by post-traumatic stress disorder.
The month-long campaign aims to raise critical funds for Camp Hope, a sanctuary nestled in Houston that offers free, long-term treatment for U.S. combat veterans struggling with PTSD and their families. Since its founding in 2012, Camp Hope has helped countless veterans reclaim their lives through faith-based peer support, clinical counseling, and a safe, healing environment.
“Too often, our veterans come home from service to fight an invisible battle,” said Officer Garsee, who is helping facilitate the campaign. “Camp Hope gives them a place to rest, heal, and be surrounded by others who understand their pain. Our goal with SOS for VETS is to ensure they never have to walk that journey alone.”

How the Community Can Help
Throughout June, the Katy Police Department is encouraging local businesses, organizations, and individuals to partner in the fundraiser. Participation is flexible, with suggested ways to get involved including:
- Donating a percentage of sales from a product or service
- Contributing proceeds from specific transactions or events
- Making a one-time donation directly to Camp Hope
All funds raised will go to the PTSD Foundation of America, the nonprofit behind Camp Hope. This Houston-based organization is dedicated to supporting veterans and their families through outreach, advocacy, and intensive PTSD recovery programs.
Donors can visit this website shared by the Katy Police Department to give directly. For those interested in becoming a campaign partner or learning more, Officer Garsee is available at 832-577-3273.
More Than a Campaign—A Lifeline for Veterans
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, nearly 20 veterans die by suicide every day in the United States. The PTSD Foundation of America exists to change that statistic by providing hope and healing without cost or judgment.
Camp Hope stands out not just for its care but for its community. Veterans in the program are paired with mentors who’ve walked in their shoes. The campus also offers educational resources for families, equipping them to better understand and support their loved ones.

“Our veterans deserve more than just gratitude—they deserve action, resources, and compassion,” Officer Garsee added. “That’s what Camp Hope delivers every single day.”
Katy Shows It Cares
The “SOS for VETS” initiative represents Katy’s broader commitment to public service and mental health awareness. By bringing businesses and neighbors together, the campaign not only raises funds but also reduces the stigma surrounding PTSD.
As PTSD Awareness Month unfolds, residents are encouraged to look beyond the battlefield and into the daily struggles many veterans face long after coming home. With each donation, Katy is sending a clear message: you are not forgotten, and you are not alone.
