Katy ISD Law Enforcement Center - 20370 Franz Road, Katy, TX 77449
-

What Is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day?
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a biannual initiative coordinated by the DEA to combat the misuse of prescription drugs, particularly opioids and other controlled substances. The program offers communities across the United States a safe and convenient way to discard medications that are no longer needed, reducing the risk of drug abuse, accidental poisoning, or environmental harm.
Since the initiative began, more than 17 million pounds of prescription drugs have been collected through local partnerships with schools, police departments, pharmacies, and other agencies. The program has become a vital tool in national efforts to address the opioid crisis and raise awareness about the importance of proper medication disposal.
Katy ISD’s Ongoing Participation
Katy ISD’s Police Department has actively supported the initiative for years, serving as a trusted community partner in efforts to promote health, safety, and environmental responsibility. During the Fall 2024 Prescription Drug Take Back Day, more than 100 community members participated by turning in unwanted medications at the district's collection sites.
This spring’s event continues the district’s proactive approach to preventing prescription drug misuse and helping residents protect their households and the environment.
