Katy ISD to Host Public Forum on Naming North Transportation Center After Longtime Director Bill Kyser
As Katy Independent School District continues expanding to serve more than 95,000 students, a key facility in northwest Katy is nearing its next milestone — and this time, it involves community voices.
Katy ISD will host a public forum on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, to gather input on the proposed naming of the North Transportation Center for longtime transportation director William “Bill” Kyser. The meeting gives residents, parents, employees and alumni an opportunity to share feedback before the Katy ISD Board of Trustees considers final approval.
For families whose children rely on school buses each day, the North Transportation Center represents more than a building. It’s part of the district’s commitment to student safety, operational efficiency and long-term planning in one of Texas’ fastest-growing school districts.
Honoring Leadership in Katy ISD Transportation
William “Bill” Kyser served Katy ISD for more than 22 years, including more than two decades as director of transportation. During a period of rapid district growth, he oversaw major advancements in fleet modernization, safety standards and operational efficiency.
Under Kyser’s leadership, Katy ISD expanded and modernized its transportation fleet, introduced air-conditioned school buses and implemented routing and safety practices that became standards across the district. His work helped shape what is now considered one of the district’s nationally recognized programs.
Beyond logistics, Kyser mentored generations of drivers, mechanics and transportation staff. District leaders note that his focus on employee training, student safety and service helped build the operational foundation the district relies on today.
The proposed naming recognizes those decades of service at a time when the district continues investing in infrastructure to support growth across the northwest region of Katy.

Why This Matters to Katy Families
Facility names in Katy ISD often become part of the community’s identity for generations. They appear on maps, employment records, district communications and daily bus operations that impact thousands of students.
For longtime residents, educators and transportation staff, the naming of the North Transportation Center reflects both the district’s rapid growth and the individuals who helped guide it responsibly.
As Katy continues expanding north and west, infrastructure decisions — from new schools to transportation facilities — shape how efficiently and safely students move through their daily routines. This public forum allows residents to participate directly in that legacy.
The Katy ISD Board of Trustees will consider community input before making a final decision.
