Katy ISD Teacher Amber Tripp Earns National Board Certification in Early Childhood Education
Amber Tripp, a kindergarten teacher at Schmalz Elementary, has earned her National Board Certification in Early Childhood - Generalist, joining an exclusive group of educators nationwide who have achieved this highly respected credential. With nearly 15 years of teaching experience, including two years in Katy ISD, Tripp becomes one of fewer than a dozen teachers in the district to hold this prestigious certification.
National Board Certification is regarded as the highest honor a teacher can achieve, and it is available in 25 different areas across multiple disciplines. The certification is a national standard for excellence in education and reflects a teacher's commitment to continuous professional development and best practices in the classroom.
"I was motivated to start this program, not only to help me further my education and how I teach, but most importantly for my students," said Tripp. "It has taught me a lot about how I teach and to reflect on what is best for all the students and how to support them."

To earn National Board Certification, educators must be certified in their state and have at least three years of teaching experience. The process includes completing a four-part assessment, which requires teachers to submit a portfolio of their work and demonstrate their professional practice. The certification is based on the Five Core Propositions, which emphasize the following principles: teachers are committed to their students' learning; they possess deep knowledge of the subjects they teach and know how to effectively teach those subjects to their students; they take responsibility for managing and monitoring student learning; they engage in reflective practice, systematically thinking about their teaching and learning from their experiences; and they are active participants in learning communities.
Tripp’s accomplishment highlights her dedication to providing the best educational experience for her students and demonstrates her ongoing commitment to professional growth. National Board Certification is a mark of excellence that signifies a teacher's ability to meet the highest standards of the profession.
