CFISD Swears In Three Newly Elected Trustees, Elects New Board Officers

December 12 2025

A new chapter in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD leadership officially began as three newly elected trustees were sworn into office during a Board of Trustees work session. The ceremony marked a key milestone following the November 4 general election, where CFISD voters selected three first-time trustees to represent Positions 5, 6, and 7.

Lesley Guilmart (Position 5), Dr. Cleveland O. Lane Jr. (Position 6), and Kendra Camarena (Position 7) each took the oath of office, administered by Board Secretary Holly Reichert. All three now begin their first four-year terms, joining the leadership of one of Texas’ largest public school districts, which serves more than 118,000 students across northwest Harris County.

The December work session also included a reorganization of the CFISD Board, in line with Board Policy BDAA (Local). In a round of internal voting, trustees selected new officers to lead the Board. Julie Hinaman was elected Board president, Dr. Cleveland O. Lane Jr. was elected vice president, and Lesley Guilmart was elected secretary.

This transition comes at a pivotal time for the district, as CFISD continues navigating statewide education policy changes, student enrollment growth, and community engagement priorities.

In the November 2025 election, voter participation reflected active civic involvement across the district. More than 62,000 votes were cast in each of the three races, with early voting accounting for over half of the total turnout.

  • In Position 5, Lesley Guilmart earned 50.89% of the vote.
  • In Position 6, Dr. Cleveland Lane Jr. received 44.79%.
  • In Position 7, Kendra Camarena won with 49.01%.

The trio's election signaled a desire for fresh perspectives among constituents, with many residents expressing interest in the future of academic programming, fiscal responsibility, and community representation on the Board.

As trustees take on their new roles, they do so with the charge of guiding a district that not only ranks among the largest in Texas but also stands at the intersection of educational innovation and neighborhood values.

CFISD families and stakeholders will continue to follow Board developments closely as Guilmart, Lane, and Camarena settle into their leadership positions and the newly reorganized Board sets priorities for the coming year.
