Katy ISD Board to Hold Work Study Meeting on February 17, 2025

Katy Independent School District (Katy ISD) has announced that its Board of Trustees will convene for a Board Work Study Meeting on Monday, February 17, 2025. The meeting will take place in the Board Room of the Katy ISD Education Support Complex, located at 6301 S. Stadium Lane, Katy, Texas, 77494. The open meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m., and the public can view proceedings through a free livestream service available at Katy ISD Board Meeting Livestream.

Public Participation and Procedures

Members of the public who wish to speak on posted agenda items must register in advance by emailing publicrecords@katyisd.org before 2:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting. The email should include the speaker’s name, discussion topic, mailing address, and whether they reside in Katy ISD or have children enrolled in the district. Additionally, speakers must sign in at least 15 minutes before the meeting begins; those who fail to do so will not be permitted to speak. Public comments will be limited to posted agenda topics and will be conducted in accordance with Katy ISD Board Policy BED.

Meeting Agenda

The meeting will commence with the call to order, confirmation of a quorum, and verification that the meeting has been properly scheduled and publicized. A Katy ISD police officer will lead attendees in the Pledges of Allegiance, followed by the administration of the Peace Officer Oath of Office for a district police officer.

Following the initial formalities, the Board will open the floor for public comments. Only those who have registered and signed in on time will be allowed to address the Board.

Closed Session Discussions

A closed meeting will be held as authorized under the Texas Open Meetings Act (Texas Government Code Section 551.001 et seq.), allowing the Board to privately consult with legal counsel and discuss personnel matters, including appointments, evaluations, and other employment considerations.

Reports and Discussion Items

Upon reconvening from the closed session, the Board will review a report on the 2025-2026 budget update. Several key discussion items are on the agenda, including:

  • Authorization of Katy ISD Unlimited Tax School Building and/or Refunding Bonds.
  • Consideration of a resolution to defease or redeem certain outstanding bonds.
  • Approval of a resolution regarding project expenditure reimbursements.
  • Review and approval of December 2024 financial reports.
  • Approval of February 2025 budget amendments.
  • Approval of the 2025-2026 Property Insurance Program.
  • Renewal of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Risk Management Fund Casualty Program for Plan Year 2025-2026.
  • Contract amendments for Stewart Builders, LLC. and Anslow Bryant LTD. for renovations at Bear Creek Elementary and Katy Junior High School, respectively.
  • Approval of the Taylor High School plat.
  • Consideration of proposals for a contracted bus driver service.
  • Approval of the district's proposed summer work schedule.
  • Review of proposals for print shop management and copier fleet maintenance services.
  • Flooring replacement contracts for Seven Lakes Junior High, Stanley Elementary, and the Beckendorff Junior High CTE computer lab.
  • Approval of interlocal agreements with Cinco Southwest Municipal Utility Districts and Katy ISD.
  • Discussion of the refund of the Katy Rotary Endowment Scholarship.
  • Update to Board Policy CW Local.

Information Items and Future Meetings

The Board will also review donated items received by the district and provide a recap of Board member requests for information. The next Regular Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 24, 2025.
