Katy ISD Appoints Elizabeth Paz as New Principal of Rhoads Elementary
Families at Rhoads Elementary will soon be getting to know a new campus leader, but one who already understands the culture, expectations and commitment to excellence that define Katy ISD schools.
The district has appointed Elizabeth Paz as principal of Rhoads Elementary, effective June 8. Bringing more than a decade of experience within Katy ISD, Paz steps into the role with a diverse leadership background that includes serving students at the elementary, junior high and high school levels.
For parents, leadership transitions can often raise questions about the future of a campus. In this case, district leaders point to Paz's extensive experience and established record of supporting students, staff and families as reasons for confidence.
A Decade of Service in Katy ISD
Paz has served in multiple leadership roles throughout the district, including assistant principal positions at McDonald Junior High, Morton Ranch High School and Sundown Elementary. She also brings classroom teaching and instructional leadership experience that has allowed her to work directly with students across a variety of grade levels.
That broad perspective can be especially valuable in elementary education, where principals help establish the academic and social foundations that students carry throughout their school careers.
“I’m excited to bring my experience in Katy ISD’s outstanding schools to Rhoads Elementary,” Paz said. “Joining the Rocket family is a joy, and I can’t wait to build new relationships and work alongside our families.”
Her emphasis on relationship-building aligns with a growing focus across school districts on strengthening connections between campuses and the communities they serve.
Supporting Students and Families
For many families, a principal serves as more than a campus administrator. Principals help guide school culture, support teachers, address concerns and create an environment where students can succeed both academically and personally.
Paz's experience across multiple campus levels gives her insight into the skills and preparation students need as they progress through Katy ISD schools. Her appointment also reflects the district's practice of developing leaders from within its own ranks.
Superintendent Ken Gregorski praised Paz and LaFollett as leaders who understand the importance of creating strong school communities.
“Kristin LaFollett and Elizabeth Paz are strong leaders who understand the importance of building robust school communities centered on student success and relationships with families and staff,” Gregorski said. “Their experience and commitment to excellence make them outstanding choices to lead these campuses into the future.”
Looking Ahead for the Rocket Family
As Rhoads Elementary prepares for the 2026-2027 school year, Paz says one of her priorities will be building meaningful relationships with students, families and staff while supporting the traditions that make the campus unique.
For parents and community members, the transition represents an opportunity to welcome a leader who is already deeply familiar with Katy ISD's educational mission and commitment to student achievement.
What Happens Next
Paz officially began serving as principal on June 8 and will lead summer planning efforts ahead of the upcoming school year. Families can expect additional opportunities to meet her and learn more about her vision for the campus as back-to-school events approach.
As Rhoads Elementary moves forward, district leaders say the focus remains on fostering student success, supporting educators and strengthening partnerships with families across the school community.
