Katy High School’s Emily Beltran Wins UIL State Wrestling Title, Goes Undefeated in 48-0 Season
Emily Beltran, a junior at Katy High School, made history this past weekend by capturing the UIL 6A state wrestling title in the 107-pound weight class. Beltran’s dominant performance at the 2025 UIL State Wrestling Championships, held at Cy-Fair ISD’s Berry Center, not only secured her first-ever state placement but also propelled Katy’s girls’ wrestling team to a third-place finish overall.
Beltran clinched the title with a second-period pin against Fiona Smith of El Paso Franklin, sealing her championship victory in 2 minutes and 24 seconds. Her win added another chapter to Katy ISD’s legacy of wrestling excellence, joining nearly two dozen district wrestlers who finished in the top 10 statewide.
A Season of Dominance and Historic Milestones
Beltran’s journey to the state title was nothing short of remarkable. In January 2025, she celebrated a major career milestone by securing her 100th career win, going undefeated at the Texas Outlaw Tournament, where she won 6-0. Her path to state gold was defined by discipline, determination, and an unrelenting drive to improve.

“Proud does not even begin to describe the feeling!” said Yesenia Beltran, Emily’s mother, via social media. “This young lady is coming to take it all this season.”
Adding to the significance of her victory, Emily maintained a flawless 48-0 record throughout the entire season, making her achievement even more impressive. Despite only wrestling for three years, she has quickly risen to elite status, proving that dedication and perseverance can overcome experience gaps.
Continuing a Legacy at Katy High School
Beltran’s victory also marked a special moment in Katy High School’s wrestling history. Her coach, Julie Stayton, was the last female wrestler from Katy High to win a state title, making Beltran’s win a full-circle moment for the program.

“We are proud of this year’s competitors and their coaches for another impressive competition season,” said Lance Carter, executive director of athletics for Katy ISD. “Through hard work and dedication to the sport, our wrestling programs continue to produce state champions and top finishers.”
The Future Looks Bright
As a junior, Beltran has one more year to build upon her already impressive resume. With a state title, an undefeated season, and over 100 career wins, she will return to the mat next season as a defending champion and a name to watch in Texas high school wrestling.
For Beltran, this state title is not just a personal victory—it is an inspiration for aspiring wrestlers across Katy ISD, proving that with determination, commitment, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, greatness is within reach.
