Katy Area Fire Departments Band Together for Katy Families In Need
As the holiday season kicks into full gear, the spirit of giving is alive and well in the Greater Katy Area. Tomorrow, on Giving Tuesday, the community has the last opportunity to contribute to the ABC13 Houston Share Your Holiday Food Drive. This annual event, now in its 43rd year, benefits the Houston Food Bank.
Local fire stations Harris County ESD 48 Fire Department, Westlake Volunteer Fire Department, Willowfork Fire Department/Fort Bend County ESD 2, and the Community Volunteer Fire Department are teaming up to provide a final opportunity for the community to donate to this food drive. From 9:00 am to 10:00 am, local heroes from these fire departments will be at the HCESD48 Fire EMS Station 1, located at 24127 Western Centre Drive in Katy, eagerly collecting non-perishable food donations.
The Houston Food Bank plays a crucial role in ensuring that families facing food insecurity can enjoy a festive holiday season. Throughout the week, those in need can reserve a special holiday food box by calling the Share Your Holidays Food Drive Phone Bank or reserving their box online. The community's generosity is showcased not only through Red Barrels at local grocery stores but also during the event's live broadcast.
The call for donations extends beyond just food items. In addition to the food drive, these local fire departments have united for Chief Santa's Toy Drive, aiming to bring joy to Katy area families in need. Donations of new and unwrapped toys for infants to teens are being accepted, and there's even consideration for older age groups, with suggestions like gift cards, earbuds/headphones, mini-speakers, metal water bottles, makeup, and pajamas. These thoughtful gifts are sure to brighten the holidays for children of all ages.
To make the donation process convenient for the community, multiple drop-off locations are available until December 12. Community Volunteer Fire Department Stations 91 and 93, Harris County ESD No. 48 Fire EMS Stations 3 and 5, Westlake Volunteer Fire Department, and Willowfork Fire Department Stations 2 and 3 are all actively participating in this collective effort to spread joy and ensure that every family in the Greater Katy Area can celebrate the holiday season.
Whether through non-perishable food items or new toys, every donation makes a meaningful impact, and the collaboration of local fire departments adds a special touch to this heartwarming initiative. As we approach the holidays, let's join hands and spread the joy of giving in the Greater Katy Area.
