Jerry Matheson Splash Pad Reopens Just in Time for Summer in Tomball
After a brief and unexpected closure earlier this month, the Jerry Matheson Park Splash Pad is once again open and ready to welcome families and young splash-seekers just in time for peak summer heat. The City of Tomball announced the reopening of the popular water feature on June 23 via social media, following repairs to equipment that had temporarily put the splash pad out of service.
Located at 1240 Ulrich Road, the Jerry Matheson Splash Pad is now fully operational and accessible during the park’s regular seasonal hours: Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and weekends from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. The splash pad is part of the larger Jerry Matheson Public Pool complex, which offers free outdoor swimming for all ages throughout the summer.
City officials originally shared the closure on June 3, citing an “unexpected equipment malfunction” that required temporary shutdown. While maintenance crews worked to restore the water feature, residents were encouraged to visit the nearby Depot Plaza Splash Pad at 201 S. Elm Street, which remained open daily.
Safe, Free Family Fun All Summer Long
Now that repairs are complete, Tomball families are heading back to the splash pad once again, a go-to destination for fun, safe water play. Designed with children in mind, the splash pad features motion-sensor-activated sprayers, a slide, dumping buckets, and zero standing water—making it a safer alternative to traditional swimming areas for little ones. It’s enclosed within the main pool complex and separated by a gated entry for added safety.
Parents planning a visit should note that all children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older, and a maximum supervision ratio of one adult per eight children is required. Swim diapers are a must for babies and toddlers, and only U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets are allowed. Cotton T-shirts, floaties, alcohol, and glass containers are strictly prohibited within the facility.

In addition to fun, safety and cleanliness remain top priorities. The pool is closed every Monday for cleaning—except on holidays like Memorial Day and Labor Day. The City also requests that groups of 10 or more children coordinate with the pool manager in advance to ensure adequate lifeguard staffing.
Plan Your Visit
The reopening comes as a welcome announcement for families in the greater Tomball area searching for free, family-friendly summer activities. Both the splash pad and the public pool are operated and maintained by the City of Tomball Public Works Department.
