Jamestown Colony HOA Proposes Long-Term Fence Upgrade: Residents Asked to Vote on Trex Composite Replacement
The Jamestown Colony Homeowners Association (HOA) is calling on all residents to cast their vote on an important project that will impact the look, longevity, and maintenance of the community: the full replacement of the neighborhood’s perimeter fence.
After months of research, public meetings, and side-by-side comparisons, the HOA Board is recommending an upgrade to an 8-foot Woodland Brown Trex Composite Fence, a move they say will greatly benefit the community for decades to come.
Why the Fence Needs Replacing
The current wood fencing that lines the perimeter of Jamestown Colony has visibly aged. Warped boards, discoloration, sagging panels, and structural issues have become common. While wood has historically been a budget-friendly choice, it comes with high long-term costs. Re-staining alone can run around $50,000 every three years, and the fences typically need replacing every 10 to 12 years.
In contrast, the Trex composite option offers a much longer lifespan and significantly lower maintenance needs. According to the HOA’s 25-year cost projection, replacing the fence with Trex could save residents over $1.5 million in total ownership costs compared to sticking with wood.
The Trex fencing is also hurricane-wind resistant, eco-friendly (made from 96% recycled wood and plastic), and comes with a 25-year limited warranty.
Community-Driven Decision
Throughout the evaluation process, the HOA Board engaged with residents via open meetings and even hosted a park gathering to gather feedback. After considering several options—including wood, vinyl, precast concrete, and brick—Trex Composite was chosen for its strong balance of appearance, durability, value, and long-term savings.

How the Project Would Be Funded
The HOA plans to finance the estimated $1,006,000 project over 10 years. With budget allocations and reserve contributions factored in, the remaining cost to homeowners would come to approximately $12.92 per month per household.
