Howdy Homemade Ice Cream Combines Ice Cream and Literature to Build Community Connections
Howdy Homemade Ice Cream in Katy has made a name for itself by not just serving delicious treats, but also serving the community. This time around, they're rolling out a new community engagement initiative, "Conversations and Ice Cream," inviting local authors to friendly meet-and-greets with the community.
Howdy's Katy franchisee Rod Batson explains, "At Howdy's, we are always happy to support the community. Over the years, we have met some really great people who support us, so we wanted to construct something special to support local authors and give them a platform to host an informative yet family-friendly event."
This idea sprung from a team brainstorming session, focusing on how best to reach out to those who may generally go unnoticed, yet carry profound missions and talents. Batson emphasizes the ultimate goal is to make reading cool and to "elevate the community through literacy". His sister Dana, a former educator, and his family strongly believe in educational programs promoting reading.
Authors whose work appeals to families, contributes knowledge to the community, and promotes positivity are the ideal candidates for this initiative. As for the frequency of these conversations, Batson says it will be "bi-weekly, based on the authors' availability," and Howdy is currently in discussions with several authors to secure dates.
"Conversations and Ice Cream" launches on February 17th with author Chip Baker, who will discuss his book, "The Impact of Influence." The doors open at 2:00 PM for this kickoff event, and all are welcome.
In exciting future developments, Batson hints at collaborations with local artists and musicians. "We have exciting news and surprises coming soon. We are always open to ideas that will help us raise awareness and highlight the amazing community that we hire."
This latest initiative is a testament to Howdy Homemade's mission, which is rooted and grounded in its devotion to the community. The ice cream chain was founded by Tom Landis, whose passion came from believing the restaurant industry is about people first, then food.
Inspired by Landis' vision for Howdy Homemade, Batson, a Mayde Creek High School graduate and owner of multiple businesses, quickly became a franchisee upon learning about the brand. He saw an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of people often overlooked, joining Landis' mission to help create job opportunities for individuals who have been marginalized due to societal misunderstanding of their abilities.
"Conversations and Ice Cream" is shaping up to be another sweet success that aims to uplift, educate, and inspire, continuing Howdy's passionate pursuit to give back to the community, one scoop at a time.
