Houston’s Homeless Heroes Find Hope: Tunnel to Towers to Celebrate Comfort Home Village Grand Opening August 13

July 17 2025

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is inviting Greater Houston residents to a heartfelt celebration of service, sacrifice, and second chances at the Grand Opening of the Comfort Home Village, a dedicated housing development for formerly homeless veterans. The ceremony will mark a significant milestone in the national effort to end veteran homelessness.

On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., the community will gather to commemorate this momentous occasion at the Tunnel to Towers Veterans Village, located at 18818 Tomball Pkwy, Houston, TX 77070, near FM 1960. Built on the site of a former 161-room hotel, the complex has been transformed into a haven offering both permanent and transitional housing for 131 veterans in need.

From Crisis to Comfort: A Veteran-Focused Vision

The Comfort Home Village is part of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Homeless Veteran Program, launched nationally in 2022 to address what the organization calls one of America’s most urgent and heartbreaking challenges: homelessness among military veterans. With an approach that tackles emotional, physical, and financial needs, the program has already provided housing and supportive services to more than 10,000 veterans and their families.

Since opening in November 2023, the Houston site has served as the flagship for this model of care, offering not just a roof over one’s head but an entire ecosystem of support services, provided by USVets, including case management, mental health care, and career development. All housing solutions at the Village are fully furnished, providing residents with dignity, comfort, and stability from the moment they arrive.

The August 13 Grand Opening celebration will unveil the second phase of the Houston Veterans Village’s development, featuring 14 new comfort homes and a thoughtfully designed outdoor social area with a pavilion to foster resident engagement, peer support, and healing. This next stage of expansion has been constructed in partnership with Paradigm Construction.

United in Purpose and Support

Senior Vice President of T2T's Homeless Veteran Program, Gavin Naples, Esq says “Our Houston Comfort Home Village will be a model for long term supportive housing throughout the nation, and will ensure that our nation's heroes who need a helping hand have a permanent place to call home, in comfort and dignity.”

Local organizations have joined in support of the mission. In July 2024, the Cy-Fair Women's Club (CWC) selected the Tunnel to Towers Veteran Village as their 2024 Adopt-A-Cause recipient, donating $10,000 to support Phase II of the Village’s development.

“It has been a tremendous blessing to have the Pink Ladies of the Cy-Fair Women's Club support our mission,” said Kim De Lorenzo, Development Manager for Tunnel to Towers in Houston. “Their generosity of time, resources, and heart have made our residents truly feel welcome and cared for.”

A Legacy of Honor, A Promise of Hope

Founded in memory of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller, who died saving others on 9/11, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation continues to honor his legacy through bold acts of service. In addition to their mission to eradicate veteran homelessness, the foundation pays off the mortgages held or builds mortgage-free homes for Gold Star families, fallen first responder families, and catastrophically injured service members and first responders. In 2025 alone, Tunnel to Towers will deliver 200 mortgage-free homes nationwide.

The Foundation’s Chairman and CEO, Frank Siller, has repeatedly emphasized the permanent nature of the programs. “We know there is more goodness in this world than evil,” he shared. “When we come together as Americans, we can be the conduits of this goodness. But we can only do it together.”
