Houston Restaurant Weeks Extends Event to Support Local Restaurants Impacted by Recent Disasters

September 03 2024

Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW) is set to extend its run for the third time in its 21 year history, as confirmed by the event's organizer, The Cleverley Stone Foundation. This decision follows previous extensions in 2017 and 2020, which were due to the catastrophic impacts of Hurricane Harvey and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The extension comes as a response to the immense financial strain that local establishments have endured due to the Derecho Storm and Hurricane Beryl. The dual disasters led to closures, loss of product, severe storm damage, and interrupted utility services, resulting in millions of dollars in lost income for the industry.

A new donation amount of $1 per HRW meal sold has been established for the extension period. The funds raised will continue to support the Houston Food Bank, offering patrons an extended opportunity to relish specially priced, multi-course prix-fixe menus for brunch, lunch, and dinner in participating restaurants. HRW meals will maintain their price points at $55 and $39 for dinner and $25 for brunch and lunch.

Katie Stone, President of The Cleverley Stone Foundation, remarked, "We made the decision to extend HRW this year due to requests we had from participating restaurants. HRW continues to be an annual traffic generator for the industry and providing additional help for restaurants, staff, and others."

HRW, which originated in 2003, is the brainchild of the late restaurant correspondent and philanthropist Cleverley Stone. Over the years, the event has collaborated with more than 400 restaurants and donated over $21 million, translating into over 63 million meals for Houstonians in need.

In the Cypress area, diners can look forward to participating eateries such as Marvino's Italian Steakhouse, Dario's Steakhouse and Seafood, and Saltgrass Steakhouse. These restaurants, amongst others across the Greater Houston Area, will continue to offer diners an opportunity to be a part of HRW during the extended period of the HRW event.

Houston Restaurant Weeks presents a unique opportunity for Houstonians to "Dine Out & Do Good," contributing to a mission feeding millions and positively impacting their community's health and well-being.
