Houston Police Officer Firas Hamid Recognized for Outstanding Community Service
For Houston Police Department (HPD) Officer Firas Hamid, law enforcement is more than just a job—it’s a commitment to bridging cultural divides and fostering trust within the community. His efforts to connect with Houston’s Middle Eastern and South Asian communities have not gone unnoticed. In December 2024, the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce honored Officer Hamid with its Certificate of Honor at a luncheon held at the Berry Center, recognizing his dedication to community-oriented policing and public service.
In addition to the chamber’s recognition, Tom Jackson, a longtime Cy-Fair leader and chamber member, presented Officer Hamid with the National Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Law Enforcement Commendation and Medal in his capacity as Former Texas SAR President. The award is given to law enforcement professionals who have demonstrated distinction and devotion in their service.
"Officer Hamid represents the very best of law enforcement," Jackson said. "His commitment to fostering trust between HPD and Houston’s Middle Eastern and South Asian communities is truly commendable.

With over six and a half years in the Houston Police Department, Officer Hamid has served in multiple capacities, including as a patrol officer in the Midwest Division and as part of a Crime Suppression Team in the Westside Division. For the past two years, he has worked as the Middle Eastern and South Asian Liaison in HPD’s Office of Community Affairs, focusing on culturally informed support, trust-building, and community safety initiatives.

Recognizing First Responders in Cy-Fair
The Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce hosts monthly luncheons to highlight the contributions of first responders, honoring them for their service, dedication, and impact on the community. The SAR Robert Rankin Chapter Public Service Committee, chaired by Tom Jackson with assistance from Allan Perkins, has played a key role in recognizing outstanding public servants through the presentation of National SAR Public Service Medals and Certificates.

Honoring Public Service and Patriotism
The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), an organization dedicated to honoring Revolutionary War ancestors, promotes patriotism, community service, and education about the founding principles of the United States. Through initiatives like these law enforcement commendations, SAR seeks to inspire future generations while celebrating those who embody the values of service and leadership.
As Officer Hamid continues his work within Houston’s diverse communities, his recognition serves as an example of the positive impact of community policing and the importance of cultural understanding in law enforcement.
