Houston Fire Department Mourns the Loss of Captain Aaron Rios

January 09 2025

The Houston Fire Department (HFD) is grieving the loss of Captain Aaron Rios, who passed away Wednesday following an off-duty medical emergency over the holiday season. Captain Rios, 46, was a highly respected firefighter who dedicated over two decades to public service, leaving an indelible mark on his colleagues and community.

Captain Rios began his career with HFD in September 2003 and rose to the rank of captain in 2017. He was most recently assigned to Station 104/D-shift in Kingwood, where he was known for his leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to protecting Houston residents.

"Captain Rios was a great man by all accounts, and the Houston Fire Department was privileged to benefit from his work," said Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz. "My heart breaks for his family, both those at home and his extended family here in the department."
