Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club Spreads Holiday Cheer to Nearly 500 Locals in Need
Since its inception in 1957, the Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club has remained a steady pillar of hope and service within the Cy-Fair community. Throughout the year, this organization lends a hand to individuals, groups and other organizations, including their annual "Christmas Cheer Baskets" program - a collaborative initiative that ensured 490 community members did not go hungry during the holiday season this past year.
Orchestrated in collaboration with The Red Wolf District of the Boy Scouts of America, CFISD Health Services, Girl Scouts, and HEB, the "Christmas Cheer Baskets" program, food was collected in area neighborhoods by Scouts. The donations were brought to the Lion’s Den, where they were sorted and bagged by many volunteers.
Thanks to efficient planning by Lion Becca with the Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club and seamless execution by all of the volunteers involved, the Saturday before Christmas became a day filled with joy for the 74 families, plus a domestic violence shelter, who received two large blue bags of food, a turkey or ham, and a stocking filled with hot chocolate and a candy cane for each family member. In addition to food collected by the Scouts, fresh fruits and vegetables, turkeys, and ham were purchased and provided by the Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club.
