High School AFJROTC Units Earn 2021-2022 Organization Awards
The Air Force JROTC units from Cy-Fair (TX-20057), Cypress Ridge (TX-20028) and Langham Creek (TX-20061) high schools were among the 364 units across the United States to receive the 2021-2022 Distinguished Unit Award, as announced by the AFJROTC Headquarters.
In addition, units at Cypress Falls (TX-20003), Cypress Springs (TX-20016) and Cypress Woods (TX-20091) high schools earned an Outstanding Organization Award.
These annual awards by the Department of the Air Force recognize units and cadets who have distinguished themselves among their peers through achievements and contributions to their communities.
In earning the Distinguished Unit Award, the Cy-Fair AFJROTC unit met the minimum criteria during the 2021-2022 school year, which included the unit not being on probation and having had at least a “Meets Standards” rating on its most recent unit evaluation. In addition, each cadet must complete an average of 12 hours of community service for the Distinguished Unit Award and an average of eight hours for the Outstanding Organization Award.
Cy-Fair earned a Distinguished Unit award for the fifth consecutive time, while CFISD has had multiple Distinguished Unit Award winners nine times since 2012.
According to a congratulatory letter from Col. Johnny McGonigal, these honors “recognize the personal growth and accomplishments of the cadets, contributions of the instructors as mentors and the support of the school and local community.” Recognized units represent the best of 870 Air Force JROTC units worldwide.
