Hays County Opens FY2027 Social Service Grant Applications, Expanding Support for Local Nonprofits and Community Needs
In a move that directly impacts families, nonprofits, and vulnerable populations across San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, and surrounding communities, Hays County has officially opened its Fiscal Year 2027 Social Service Grant application, offering critical funding to organizations working on the front lines of community support.
For many residents, these grants represent more than funding—they help sustain essential services like food assistance, mental health care, youth programs, and senior support that families rely on every day. As Hays County continues to grow, leaders say strengthening this safety net remains a top priority.
Strengthening the Safety Net for Hays County Residents
The Hays County Social Service Grant program is designed to fund established nonprofit organizations that serve priority populations and address service gaps across the county. Applications are due by 3 p.m. CST on June 1, 2026, with the funding period running from Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Ingalsbe emphasized the broader community impact behind the initiative.
“The Hays County Commissioners Court administers Social Service Grants to promote community well-being and to address gaps in services among populations in need,” said Ingalsbe. “These investments help strengthen the local network of organizations that residents rely on every day. By supporting agencies that are already making a measurable difference, we’re able to expand access to vital resources and ensure that more families, individuals, and neighborhoods receive timely support.”
From rapidly growing suburban neighborhoods to rural areas, demand for services continues to evolve. County officials say this program helps ensure nonprofits can keep pace with that growth while maintaining quality care.
What Types of Programs Are Funded?
Previous Hays County grant recipients have used funding to support a wide range of community-based services, including:

- Mental health and substance use treatment services

- Senior services and aging support
- Career advancement and workforce readiness initiatives
- Library and educational services
- Animal services and community care programs
These efforts often operate quietly in the background—but for many households, they are essential to stability, recovery, and opportunity.
