Harris County Precinct 4 Partners with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston to Launch Free After-School Programs for Children
In a bid to support children's development outside of school hours, Harris County Precinct 4 is teaming up with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston to offer free after-school programming. Commissioner Lesley Briones is leading the initiative, reinforcing her commitment to broadening the availability of quality extracurricular activities for children within Precinct 4.
The after-school programs, which are set to be held at Bayland, Weekley, and Radack community centers, follow the success of Precinct 4's summer programs. They are designed to offer engaging activities in a secure yet stimulating environment, tailored to different age and grade groups and laid out in weekly schedules. Participants can expect a diverse range of program areas including literacy, math, social-emotional learning, leadership and citizenship, athletics, and even arts and dance. In addition, children will receive assistance with homework and meals.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston is a leading youth-development organization in the region. Founded in 1952 as The Variety Boys Club, it has built a strong track record of engaging, educating, and empowering youth to enhance their prospects for academic and economic success.
Grounded in the vision to set success within reach for its members and ensuring they stay on track with their high school education, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston plays a significant role in addressing the opportunity gap. The organization aspires to scale-up its life-changing impacts, preparing children and teens to become future problem solvers, innovators, and leaders.

Each year, over 50,000 children and teens aged between 6 and 17, patronize the Club's after-school and summer programs. Apart from receiving meals and homework assistance, they have access to strong role models, organized athletics, character development programs, and the arts, providing a myriad of opportunities for all young people to get involved and acquire new skills.
The Precinct 4 after-school initiative is slated to start on September 3, 2024, and will run through May 16, 2025. It will be operational from Monday to Friday, between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m, and will be absolutely free to all participants. See the map below for locations of participating community centers.
