Harris County Fair & Rodeo Seeking Volunteers to Support Local Youth

July 03 2023

On Tuesday, July 18, the Harris County Fair and Rodeo will host a work meeting to discuss planning and building new committees to help the Harris County Fair and Rodeo return to its former glory.

Established in 1979, the Harris County Fair was held at the Houston Farm and Ranch Club for many years. But after Hurricane Harvey covered the facilities in 18 feet of water, after having already flooded just one year prior, the iconic Houston Farm and Ranch Club was condemned. In an effort to revive and expand the Harris County Fair, supporters teams together in 2018 to establish the Harris County Fair and Rodeo.

Then in the spring of this year, 165 acres of land at the northwest corner of Telge Road and Grand Parkway in Cypress were purchased for the future home of the Harris County Fair and Rodeo and Fair BBQ Cook-off. The site will also host a number of other family-oriented community events throughout the year, with its first fair and rodeo event tentatively slated for late 2024. This year, the Harris County Fair and Rodeo was held at the Katy ISD Gerald D. Young Agricultural Science Center.

County Fairs provide youth, senior citizens, and the community opportunities to expand their involvement and display their passion for arts, crafts, home goods, livestock projects, leadership, among many other opportunities. Those interested in being a part of the Harris County Fair and Rodeo are invited to come learn about opportunities to support the Fair and ways to get involved. The Harris County Fair and Rodeo plans to establish new committees and add new team members, with volunteer  opportunities for small and large roles to fit any schedule.

This work meeting will be held at Houston Distribution Company at 7:00 PM on July 18. Light bites and drinks will be available. To learn more about the Harris County Fair and Rodeo, please visit their website at hcfairandrodeo.org
