Harris County ESD 48 Welcomes First Life & Safety Educator to Community Risk Reduction Team
Harris County ESD 48, your local fire department, is excited to announce the latest addition to their dedicated team, Natasha Matulis, as the inaugural Fire & Life Safety Educator. With a commendable background in teaching at Paetow High School and a bachelor's degree in public health, Matulis is uniquely positioned to establish and strengthen educational relationships with Katy ISD. As part of the department's Community Risk Reduction team, her role will significantly focus on devising safety education initiatives that cater specifically to individual school requirements.
Chief Jason Tharp shared his enthusiasm for Matulis' arrival, noting, "We are delighted to welcome Natasha to our team. Her expertise will be invaluable as we address the vital safety topics required by each school. For years, the generic 'Stop, Drop, and Roll' message has been widely used. However, we understand that different schools have distinct safety concerns, such as a lack of bicycle helmets in one school and distracted driving in another. It's time to analyze the data and provide tailored safety messages".
This appointment demonstrates ESD 48's commitment to ensuring a robust, community-centered risk reduction approach. The Fire Department's Community Risk Reduction division offers a broad range of services, including fire and life safety education, smoke alarm installation, baby safe sleep classes, and a host of tailored safety initiatives.

By personalizing safety education measures to cater to specific school needs, ESD 48 continues to lead the way in ensuring a safer, more informed community.
