Get a Free Tow with Tow and Go

April 26 2023

We all know how frustrating Houston traffic can be. With the city attracting more newcomers and roadways becoming more congested, traffic will continue to be a pain point for Houstonians, especially during peak driving times. But the worst situation to be in during traffic is when your vehicle breaks down, you get a flat tire or you run out of gas, right there in the middle of the freeway. Calling a wrecker service can be very costly and to of reach for many Houstonians. So, what do you do?

Call Tow and Go, a program developed to keep motorists safe and traffic moving through no-cost, quick clearance of vehicle breakdowns on camera-monitored sections of the freeway. Each tow is authorized by law enforcement and is provided by Tow and Go responders who are required to meet strict performance standards. The program aims to reduce traffic congestion and the chance of dangerous secondary incidents that put lives at risk.

Because so many people travel regularly to Houston from outside the city limits, the Gulf Coast Regional Tow and Go Program has expanded to all of Harris County. The Houston-Galveston Area Council manages the Gulf Coast Regional Tow and Go Program through funding provided by the Federal Highway Administration and the Texas Department of Transportation. Participants in the program include the City of Houston, Harris County, Bellaire, Jersey Village, La Porte, Humble, and representatives from the towing industry that operate out of Houston TranStar.

How It Works

STEP 1

Call

If your vehicle breaks down on a freeway in the Tow and Go service area, call:

713-881-3333

STEP 2

Be Safe

While waiting for Tow and Go, turn on your flashing hazard lights and stay inside your vehicle with seatbelts buckled.

STEP 3

Help is Here

Tow and Go will take you and your vehicle off the freeway to a safe location within one mile of your breakdown. If the problem is a flat tire and you have the necessary equipment along with a working spare, the Tow and Go operator will change the tire at no cost.
