Get a Closer Look at Firefighter Life: Sign Up for a Willowfork Fire Department Station Tour

March 06 2025

Did you know that residents of Fort Bend County Emergency Services District No. 2 (FBCESD 2) and the Willowfork Fire Department service area have the opportunity to step inside the daily operations of their local firefighters with guided fire station tours? With three fire stations in Katy, the department invites community members, school groups, and special interest organizations to sign up for an interactive and educational tour.

A Perfect Spring Break Activity for Kids

With Spring Break just around the corner, parents looking for fun and educational activities for their children should consider booking a fire station tour. These interactive tours offer a unique opportunity for kids to engage with real-life firefighters, explore fire trucks, and learn important fire safety tips. Whether it’s a small family visit or a larger group outing, a fire station tour is an exciting way to spend a day while also gaining valuable knowledge about emergency services.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Firefighting

Station tours offer a firsthand look at how firefighters train, prepare, and respond to emergencies in Cinco Ranch and surrounding areas. Visitors will get an up-close view of the fire trucks, rescue equipment, and protective gear used by first responders.

“Touring a fire station is a great way for kids and adults alike to see what firefighters do every day,” said Keri Reitenour, District Administrator for Willowfork/Fort Bend ESD 2. “It’s an interactive experience that not only teaches fire safety but also strengthens the community’s appreciation for first responders.”

A Fire Department Rooted in Community Service

Formed in 2002, Fort Bend County ESD No. 2 was created in response to the rapid growth of Cinco Ranch and surrounding areas. Officially beginning service on January 1, 2003, the Willowfork Fire Department has since expanded to three stations, providing 24/7 emergency response with a highly trained team of firefighters, captains, and paramedics.

The department operates three pumpers, a 100-foot aerial tower, a command vehicle, and additional specialized rescue equipment to ensure top-tier fire protection and emergency response. In response to Hurricane Harvey in 2017, Willowfork Fire Department also invested in rescue boats and swift-water rescue training to enhance emergency preparedness during natural disasters.

A Learning Opportunity for All

Visiting a local fire station is not just an exciting trip for children—it’s an educational experience for all ages. Through these tours, the Willowfork Fire Department aims to foster stronger ties between first responders and the community, promoting fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and public safety awareness.
