
Fulshear Simonton Fire Department Appoints Jason Tharp as Deputy Chief of Communications
The Fulshear Simonton Fire Department (FSFD) proudly announces the appointment of Jason Tharp as the new Deputy Chief of Communications, marking a significant step forward in the department’s strategic leadership expansion.
With nearly two decades of fire service experience, Chief Tharp brings a rare blend of operational expertise and forward-thinking communication strategies. His career includes pivotal roles in some of the region’s most respected emergency service organizations.
At Harris County Emergency Services District No. 48 (HCESD 48), Chief Tharp served as Battalion Chief of Community Risk Reduction and Public Information Officer. There, he led innovative initiatives like launching virtual home safety surveys during the COVID-19 pandemic and participating in the National Fire Protection Association’s Community Risk Assessment pilot program—a testament to his dedication to proactive community engagement.

He also served as District Chief at Eastex Fire Department (HCESD 10), where he directed operational strategies and helped enhance emergency response protocols. His ability to merge community outreach with operational command has made him a standout leader in the Texas fire service.
“Chief Tharp’s appointment reflects our continued commitment to building a strong, progressive department that’s ready for the rapid growth happening in our community,” said Fire Chief Doug Boeker. “His experience and leadership will be instrumental as we move into the next phase of development.”
Chief Tharp holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fire and Emergency Service Administration from Texas A&M University–San Antonio. He is also a graduate of the Texas Fire Chiefs Academy and the prestigious Fire Service Chief Executive Officer program through Texas A&M TEEX and Mays Business School.

His professional certifications are extensive and include TCFP Master Structural Firefighter, Master Instructor, Fire Officer IV, Incident Safety Officer, Wildland Firefighter, Advanced Fire Investigator, and Fire and Life Safety Educator II, among others.
The addition of Chief Tharp comes at a pivotal time for FSFD. As Fulshear holds the title of the fastest-growing city in the nation, the department is preparing to meet the increasing demands of a booming population. Next month, FSFD will break ground on Station 6, located at 3102 Jordan Ranch Blvd.Brookshire, TX 77423 in the Jordan Ranch community—the first of three new fire stations planned over the next three years. This expansion will not only improve emergency coverage but also create numerous promotional and leadership opportunities for current and future firefighters.
