Fulshear Residents Invited to Safely Dispose of Medications at DEA National Drug Take Back Day on April 25

April 13 2026

As medicine cabinets fill over time, many families are left wondering what to do with unused prescriptions, expired pills, or old vaping cartridges. On Saturday, April 25, 2026, the Fulshear Police Department is stepping in to provide a simple, responsible solution as part of the DEA’s National Drug Take Back Day.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents can drop off eligible items outside the Fulshear Police Department, located at 6639 W Cross Creek Bend Ln, Fulshear, TX 77441. The event offers a free, no-questions-asked way to dispose of medications that might otherwise pose risks at home or in the community.

Why Drug Take Back Day Matters for Fulshear Families

Unused or improperly stored medications can create unintended dangers—especially in households with children, teens, or aging family members. According to public health experts, leftover prescription drugs are a leading source of misuse, often accessed from within the home.

By participating in National Drug Take Back Day in Fulshear, residents are not only clearing out clutter—they’re helping prevent accidental poisonings, prescription drug misuse, and environmental contamination caused by flushing medications down the drain.

Events like this also provide peace of mind. Rather than guessing how to dispose of medications safely, families can rely on a trusted, local option supported by law enforcement and federal agencies.

What You Can—and Can’t—Bring

The Fulshear Police Department will accept a range of commonly used medications during the April 25 event, including:

  • Tablets and capsules
  • Patches
  • Other solid forms of prescription drugs

Residents can also dispose of vaping devices and cartridges, provided that lithium batteries are removed beforehand.

However, not all items will be accepted. Liquids and syringes are excluded from this collection event, so residents should plan accordingly.

A Nationwide Effort with Local Impact

The DEA National Drug Take Back Day program has become one of the country’s most effective public safety initiatives since its launch in 2010. Organized by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the program aims to provide safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the public about the risks of misuse.

According to the DEA, millions of pounds of medications have been collected nationwide through these biannual events, significantly reducing the availability of unused drugs in homes across the country.

For communities like Fulshear, participation connects residents to a larger, coordinated effort to improve public health while reinforcing local safety standards.

What Happens Next

For those who can’t make the April 25 event, many law enforcement agencies offer year-round drop boxes or host future take-back events. Residents are encouraged to check with the Fulshear Police Department for additional disposal options throughout the year.

In the meantime, this upcoming event provides a timely opportunity to take a simple step that can make a meaningful difference at home and across the community.

As Fulshear continues to grow, small actions like participating in National Drug Take Back Day reflect a shared commitment to safety, responsibility, and care for neighbors.
