Fulshear Police Adds New Rookie Responders Class to Meet High Demand from Young Drivers
In response to overwhelming community demand, the Fulshear Police Department has announced an additional session of its popular Rookie Responders class for new and soon-to-be drivers. The new class is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Fulshear City Hall Municipal Complex, located at 6611 W. Cross Creek Bend Blvd, Fulshear, TX 77441.
This free, one-hour course continues to draw praise for its interactive format, video-based instruction, and real-world relevance. Designed especially for teen drivers and young adults, Rookie Responders is quickly becoming a community staple for promoting driver safety, confidence during traffic stops, and awareness of distracted driving risks—all topics that strike close to home for many local families.
An Urgent Need for Road Safety Education
The class addresses a sobering reality. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of unintentional death for Americans aged 15 to 24. In 2021 alone, over 2,100 teen drivers lost their lives in traffic collisions, while more than 200,000 were injured.
These statistics spotlight a troubling pattern: despite accounting for just 5.1% of licensed drivers, young motorists were involved in 8.5% of fatal crashes and 12.6% of all accidents nationwide. The Rookie Responders program directly addresses this gap in experience and education through proactive instruction.

What Participants Will Learn
Led by local law enforcement—including Captain Mike McCoy, who coordinates registration and outreach—the Rookie Responders class includes two key learning outcomes:
- How to handle traffic stops with confidence and respect
- How to recognize and avoid distracted driving behaviors
Through a mix of engaging video scenarios, hands-on guidance, and opportunities for open Q&A, attendees leave better prepared to navigate potentially high-stress situations behind the wheel. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend alongside their teen drivers.
“Classes like these are about building trust and awareness—not just between officers and young drivers, but between parents and their kids as they take the wheel for the first time,” said a Fulshear PD spokesperson in a previous session announcement.
Reserve a Seat—Before They’re Gone
Rookie Responders classes with Fulshear Police have filled up rapidly—prompting the department to expand with this new June session.
Seats are limited, and those interested are urged to reserve a spot immediately by emailing Captain Mike McCoy at mmccoy@fulsheartexas.gov.
In a community growing as quickly as Fulshear, especially among families with teens, proactive safety programs like this one help bridge the gap between education and real-life experience on Texas roads.
