Free Mulch Available in New Braunfels: Comal County Recycling Center Helps Residents Prep Gardens for Spring
With sunny skies and warm temperatures settling into the upper 70s, it’s prime time to step outside and give yards and gardens a little extra care. For local residents looking to get a head start on spring landscaping, the Comal County Recycling Center is offering a simple, budget-friendly solution: free mulch, available now while supplies last.
The Recycling Center team welcomes residents to stop by and load up, whether it’s a few bags for a small garden bed or a full truckload for a larger landscaping project. Mulch is available at the Comal County Recycling Center located at 281 Resource Drive in New Braunfels, with convenient weekday and Saturday hours to fit busy schedules.
According to the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, mulch plays an important role in maintaining healthy landscapes. AgriLife experts note that mulch helps conserve soil moisture by reducing evaporation, which is especially important in Texas’ warm climate. It also helps regulate soil temperature, keeping plant roots cooler during hot weather and warmer during cooler nights. Over time, organic mulch breaks down and improves soil structure, adding nutrients that support healthier plant growth.

Beyond plant health, Texas AgriLife Extension also highlights mulch as an effective weed suppressant. A proper layer of mulch blocks sunlight from reaching weed seeds, reducing unwanted growth and saving homeowners time and effort throughout the growing season.
The Recycling Center makes it easy for residents to take advantage of these benefits. Operating hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon. For safety and cleanliness, visitors hauling mulch in a truck or trailer are reminded that a tarp is required to cover the load.
Community members are encouraged to take advantage of this free resource while it’s available and to thank the Recycling Center staff for the work they do year-round to support sustainability and responsible reuse in Comal County.
For anyone planning spring planting, refreshing flower beds, or tackling long-overdue landscaping projects, this free mulch offering is a small but meaningful way the community is helping residents care for their homes.
