Free Books Alive! Musical Performance Coming to Cinco Ranch Library Brings Literacy to Life for Katy Area Children
Families in Seven Meadows looking for a fun and educational summer activity will soon have the opportunity to experience a unique blend of storytelling, music, and live theater at the Cinco Ranch Branch Library.
As part of its ongoing mission to promote literacy through the arts, Books Alive! will bring its spring and summer touring production of The Ballerina with Webbed Feet to the Cinco Ranch Branch Library on Monday, June 8, offering local children an engaging way to connect with reading beyond the pages of a book.
The free performances will take place from 3:00–3:45 p.m. and 4:00–4:45 p.m. in the library’s Meeting Room. Designed for children in grades 1 through 5, the program transforms a cherished bilingual children's book into a fully staged musical experience, encouraging young audiences to see reading, creativity, and self-expression in a whole new light.
Bringing Books to Life Through the Arts
Books Alive! is a professional touring theater company dedicated to encouraging literacy through live performance. Working directly with authors of children's books, the organization develops original musicals that adapt beloved stories into engaging productions for schools, libraries, hospitals, and youth organizations throughout the Greater Houston area.
Their current production, The Ballerina with Webbed Feet by Pam Von Scoyoc, tells the story of a duck who dreams of becoming a ballerina despite having webbed feet. Along the way, audiences are introduced to themes of perseverance, inclusion, friendship, self-acceptance, resilience, and overcoming challenges.
For many families in Seven Meadows, the performance offers more than just entertainment. It provides children with an opportunity to see important life lessons brought to life through music, movement, and storytelling while reinforcing the value of reading and imagination.
Why Programs Like This Matter for Local Families
Libraries have long served as community gathering spaces, and programs like Books Alive! help expand their role by creating memorable educational experiences for children during the summer months.
Research consistently shows that arts-based learning can strengthen literacy skills, improve comprehension, and foster a lifelong love of reading. By combining theater with literature, Books Alive! helps children make deeper connections with stories while encouraging creativity and confidence.
For parents in Seven Meadows, the event also offers a free, enriching activity that keeps children engaged in learning while school is out for the summer.
