Free AARP Tax Preparation Help at Mission Bend Branch Library in Fort Bend County

Free AARP Tax Preparation Help at Mission Bend Branch Library in Fort Bend County

March 25 2025

Fort Bend County residents seeking free income-tax assistance this season can access trusted help through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program, available at multiple Fort Bend County Libraries locations, including the Mission Bend Branch Library. The program provides no-cost, IRS-certified tax preparation support to low-income taxpayers through April 15, 2025.

At the Mission Bend Branch Library, located at 8421 Addicks Clodine Road, trained AARP volunteers will be available on Mondays, April 7 and 14, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the library’s Meeting Room. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 832-471-5900

This initiative is part of a nationwide effort to provide accessible free tax filing help for seniors and low- to moderate-income individuals during tax season. While income tax forms are not available at library locations, the in-person assistance can help ensure that all documents are prepared and filed correctly.

What to Bring to Your Tax Appointment

To make the most of your appointment and avoid delays, attendees should bring the following documents:

  • A valid photo ID

  • Social Security cards or ITIN documentation for the filer, spouse, and dependents

  • A copy of your 2023 tax return

  • All income-related documents for 2024, including W-2s, 1099s, and other compensation forms

  • Unemployment income statements, if applicable

  • Any documents needed for deductions or credits (e.g., education expenses, mortgage interest, etc.)

The service is free and open to the public, regardless of AARP membership. Bilingual assistance may be available upon request.

About the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is the largest free, volunteer-based tax assistance initiative in the United States. Established more than 50 years ago, the program is staffed by IRS-certified volunteers who help taxpayers prepare and file federal returns accurately and securely.

Each year, AARP Tax-Aide helps over 1.5 million people file their taxes. The program focuses on serving those 50 and older with low to moderate income, though it is open to all who qualify. The goal is to ensure that every eligible taxpayer receives the maximum refund and tax credits available to them, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit.

Why Free Tax Assistance Matters

Many Americans miss out on valuable tax credits or overpay for commercial tax services. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) encourages eligible taxpayers to use free preparation options to reduce filing errors and maximize their returns.

“Tax season can be stressful, especially for those on fixed incomes or with limited resources,” said a Fort Bend County Libraries spokesperson. “Partnering with AARP helps us meet a real community need by offering reliable, no-cost tax support close to home.”
