Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels Serves 7 Millionth Meal

October 30 2023

Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels (FBS) achieved a momentous milestone on October 30, delivering their 7 millionth meal to 85-year-old retired Navy pilot, Jesus Tupaz. This milestone underscores FBS' unwavering commitment to combating the critical issue of hunger among older adults, standing as a testament to the enduring dedication and support of the Fort Bend County community through their 49 years in existence.

Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels is poised to enter their 50th year with renewed vigor, having recently welcomed a new Executive Director who brings fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the mission.

"We are deeply honored to have reached this incredible milestone of serving our 7 millionth meal to Mr. Tupaz," said Doug Simpson, Executive Director of FBS Meals on Wheels. "Our longstanding commitment to enriching lives, fostering independence through nutrition, human connection, and supportive services has been the driving force behind our success. As we approach our 50th year, we are more determined than ever to continue making a positive impact in the lives of our senior neighbors."

Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels plays a vital role by delivering hot meals to nearly 1,300 senior citizens daily, including many who live alone and cannot prepare their own meals. In 2023, the organization is projected to serve over 400,000 meals to homebound seniors and attendees of the eight senior centers they operate. Beyond meal delivery, Fort Bend Seniors provides transportation to and from the centers, fitness classes, recreational activities, case management, emergency meals, and more, all at no cost to local seniors, 60 years and older.

This month, FBS will launch their annual Secret Santa initiative, a cherished FBS holiday tradition that's 15 years in the making. At the beginning of the holiday season, every Meals on Wheels client receives a reusable, holiday themed shopping bag with a new, gender neutral, towel set, and a personal item. The 2023 Secret Santa drive will be held November 8 through December 1. To learn more about this special initiative and get involved, please visit fortbendseniors.org/news-events/secret-santa
