Fort Bend Marshall Wins Houston Methodist Cy-Hoops Invitational Title
Fort Bend Marshall High School clinched the championship title at the 15th annual Houston Methodist Cy-Hoops Invitational, defeating Mansfield Summit High School 43-38 in a thrilling championship game held on December 14, 2024, at the Berry Center in Cypress.
The victory marked another high point for the Fort Bend Marshall basketball program as the team emerged victorious in one of the most competitive high school basketball tournaments in the Houston area. Senior forward Kevin Sargeant was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his standout performance in the championship game.
“Kevin was outstanding in this tournament, and he’s been a huge part of our team’s success all season,” said Fort Bend Marshall head coach. “He’s the kind of player who can take over a game when needed, and today he showed his leadership.”
Mansfield Summit, which had a remarkable run to the finals, finished as the runner-up in the invitational after defeating Cypress Creek High School 46-44 in the semifinal round. Summit’s junior guard, Theo Brannan, earned the De’Aaron Fox Most Outstanding Player Award for his efforts throughout the tournament.
“This was a great experience for our team,” said Mansfield Summit head coach. “While we’re disappointed with the loss, we know we gave it our all, and Theo played tremendously. He’s a big reason we got this far.”
The tournament also featured a spirited competition for third place, with Cypress Creek High School falling to Fort Bend Marshall’s championship opponent, Mansfield Summit, in a closely contested semifinal. The Cougars earned third place by securing a 64-59 victory over CE King High School, who finished fourth.
In other bracketed games, Waxahachie High School took home the fifth-place honors, edging Summer Creek 63-53. In the consolation round, Cypress Springs High School triumphed over Cypress Ranch High School, securing the consolation championship with a 47-44 victory.
The Cy-Hoops Invitational is not only a premier high school basketball event but also a significant fundraiser benefiting the Cypress-Fairbanks Education Foundation (CFEF). Since its inception in 2009, the CFEF has raised funds to support scholarships for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students and staff development programs, with all proceeds from the tournament supporting these initiatives.

Longtime supporter and NBA player De’Aaron Fox, a former player at Cypress Lakes High School, once again lent his support as a premier sponsor of the event. Fox, whose involvement with the Cy-Hoops Invitational helps fund scholarships for local students, also presents the tournament's Most Outstanding Player Award each year.
The tournament featured 24 teams, including both local Cypress-Fairbanks ISD teams and others from across the state. The event was held at the Berry Center, with additional games taking place at nearby high schools, including Cypress Woods, Langham Creek, and Cypress Park. Fans were also treated to the chance to attend games for free by wearing their team jerseys.
“The support for this tournament has been amazing, and we are grateful for the community backing we’ve received,” said CFEF executive director. “Not only do these teams get to compete at a high level, but the tournament also helps provide future opportunities for students in the Cypress-Fairbanks area.”
As Fort Bend Marshall celebrated their victory on the court, the Cy-Hoops Invitational continued to achieve its dual purpose: offering high-caliber basketball competition while supporting educational and community programs that help ensure the success of future generations.
