Fort Bend County Students Honored: Six Young Women Awarded 2026 FBJSL Volunteer Scholarships for Service and Leadership

In a community where service and education often go hand in hand, six Fort Bend County students are being recognized for going above and beyond—both in the classroom and in the lives of others.

The Fort Bend Junior Service League (FBJSL) has announced the recipients of its 2026 Volunteer Scholarships, honoring six outstanding young women whose dedication to volunteerism, leadership, and academic achievement reflects the values many families across Fort Bend County strive to instill at home.

Celebrating Service and Academic Excellence in Fort Bend County

Selected from a competitive pool of applicants, the 2026 FBJSL Volunteer Scholarship recipients—Anna Kate Beck, Ayushi Kasotia, Olivia Porter, Aleena Qadri, Saige Sowa, and Sophie Zeng—stand out not only for their accomplishments, but for the impact they’ve already made in their communities.

Together, these students contributed an impressive 2,954 volunteer hours while maintaining an average GPA of 3.87. For many local residents, that combination speaks to something larger: a generation growing up with a strong sense of responsibility to give back.

“These young women truly represent the heart of service in our community,” said Brandy Edwards, FBJSL Scholarship Coordinator. “We are honored to support them as they continue their educational journeys and carry forward a lifelong commitment to giving back.”

Why Volunteer Scholarships Matter for Fort Bend Families

Programs like the Fort Bend Junior Service League Volunteer Scholarships don’t just reward individual achievement—they reinforce a culture of community involvement that benefits the entire region.

For parents, educators, and local leaders, these scholarships highlight the importance of balancing academic success with real-world impact. Volunteerism builds leadership skills, strengthens neighborhoods, and fosters a sense of connection that continues long after graduation.

The six recipients were formally introduced during the League’s April membership meeting, where they were recognized by FBJSL members and welcomed into a legacy of service that spans more than two decades.

Powered by a Community Tradition: Sugar Plum Market

One of the most meaningful aspects of the FBJSL scholarship program is how it is funded. The scholarships are made possible through Sugar Plum Market, the League’s annual holiday shopping event that is entirely volunteer-run.

For many Fort Bend County residents, Sugar Plum Market is more than a seasonal tradition—it’s a direct investment in local students and nonprofits. Proceeds from the event are reinvested back into the community through scholarships like these, as well as grants supporting local organizations.

Since its founding in 2001, FBJSL has contributed more than $6.3 million to Fort Bend County nonprofits and initiatives, supporting over 100 organizations and logging more than 200,000 volunteer hours. That level of sustained impact continues to shape the county’s growth, from education and healthcare to family services and youth programs.

Building the Next Generation of Community Leaders

The Fort Bend Junior Service League’s mission—to promote volunteerism, develop the potential of women, and improve the community through trained volunteer leadership—is reflected clearly in this year’s scholarship recipients.

For residents across Fort Bend County, stories like these offer a reminder that the future of the community is already taking shape in classrooms, volunteer projects, and local initiatives led by students who are choosing to serve.

As these six young women prepare for the next chapter in their educational journeys, their contributions are already leaving a lasting mark—one that extends far beyond grades or accolades.
