Fort Bend County Seeks Community Feedback on High-Speed Internet Connectivity

March 25 2024

Fort Bend County is currently seeking community feedback on the subject of high-speed internet connectivity across the county. This initiative is driven by the county's aim to amass data which can be utilized to make informed decisions about enhancing broadband access for both its residents and businesses.

The county is carrying out a survey to gather feedback concerning broadband internet connectivity in the area. Residents and workers in the county are being strongly encouraged to participate in this endeavor. The feedback they provide will offer necessary insights that can guide county leaders in making appropriate decisions regarding the enhancement of broadband infrastructure.

Recently, an infrastructure bill alotting $42 billion to broadband infrastructure was passed. In 2024, Texas is expected to receive around $3.3 billion from this total amount. This funding has led to the initiation of a study by the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) and the Gulf Coast Economic Development District. The study aims to produce actionable plans for the improvement of broadband access in their 13 member counties, which includes Fort Bend County.

Fort Bend County is an active participant in this study and has made a commitment to use the funds allocated to it in an effective manner with the focus on improving broadband connectivity. The county understands the crucial role reliable high-speed internet plays in the lives of its residents, its businesses and also in overall economic development.

To gather public opinion, the county has shared a link to a survey organized by the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC). This survey aims to gather information about the state of broadband internet connectivity in the county, with a focus on areas that are either unserved or underserved. The feedback received will help pinpoint areas where there are gaps in broadband access, which will, in turn, help guide future plans for infrastructure development.
