However, county officials and fire authorities stress that fireworks safety remains a concern as New Year’s Eve celebrations approach, particularly in residential areas like The Points where homes, fences, and landscaping are in close proximity.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), fireworks-related fires often occur when celebrants underestimate how far sparks can travel or how quickly wind conditions can change. Even a brief gust can redirect burning debris onto dry grass, rooftops, or nearby structures, leading to preventable fires in neighborhoods across the county.
Fireworks can be a fun way to celebrate, but a few smart precautions can make a meaningful difference. The Points residents are urged to use fireworks only where they are legal and to choose a clear, open area away from buildings, vehicles, and dry vegetation. Fire officials also recommend that adults handle all fireworks and that eye protection be worn to reduce the risk of injury.
