Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Shares Key Progress on Grand Parkway and Mobility Projects

Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Shares Key Progress on Grand Parkway and Mobility Projects

April 14 2025

Residents of Fort Bend County Precinct 1 can expect continued improvements to local infrastructure, as recent updates from the March 2025 Grand Parkway Projects Meeting and Mobility Projects Monthly Meeting reveal significant progress across several ongoing construction and design initiatives. These updates expand upon earlier January 2025 announcements and reflect the county’s ongoing investment in mobility, safety, and traffic management throughout rapidly growing communities like Katy, Fulshear, and Simonton.

Grand Parkway Construction and Design Projects Progressing

The Grand Parkway (SH 99) corridor, a critical loop for regional traffic relief, remains a focal point of Precinct 1's efforts. Notably:

  • Construction between Westheimer and Cinco Ranch (Project 17303) reached substantial completion, and the frontage roads officially opened to traffic in October 2024. While some TxDOT permitting work remains, the segment is effectively operational.

  • The section from FM 1093 to Fry Road (Project 17304) is still under construction, with mainlane completion expected by May 2025. Utilities work involving ATMOS is scheduled to be completed one month after mobilization begins in late March.

In addition to construction, multiple Grand Parkway frontage road and mainlane widening projects remain in the design phase:

  • Segments between Bay Hill Boulevard and Westheimer, both northbound and southbound, are being designed with updated letting dates now scheduled through late 2025 and 2026, depending on segment and funding source.

  • Bridge widening projects over Bay Hill and Cinco Ranch are also progressing in parallel, with 90% design reviews and updated hydraulic and right-of-way documentation being prepared.

While right-of-way coordination, noise evaluations, and utility alignments are still ongoing, these projects collectively point toward a more robust and accessible Grand Parkway system in coming years.

Local Mobility Projects Advance Across Precinct 1

Beyond SH 99, the March 2025 Mobility Projects Monthly Meeting detailed advancements on numerous community-level roadway, sidewalk, and signal projects that will directly benefit residents in neighborhoods across Precinct 1:

  • Greenbusch Road is undergoing a full reconstruction between Gaston Road and Westheimer Parkway. The $8.4 million project includes a storm sewer upgrade and new bridge construction. Completion is expected by June 2026.

  • Huggins Drive improvements will begin in April 2025, upgrading the corridor between FM 359 and Katy Fulshear Road to a 3-lane concrete roadway. The project includes utility coordination with multiple providers and right-of-way clearance from the City of Fulshear.

  • McCrary Road is being transformed into a 4-lane boulevard with an improved intersection at FM 359. The project balances expansion with efforts to preserve nearby trees and accommodate resident access.

  • New sidewalk installations and signal projects are addressing both pedestrian and vehicle safety in high-traffic areas such as Cinco Ranch Boulevard, Falcon Landing Boulevard, and Katy Flewellen Road.

Bond-Funded Projects Bring More Community Enhancements

Updates from the Mobility Bond Projects Meeting on March 18, 2025, indicate momentum on additional long-range projects:

  • Stella Road construction continues with drainage and detention pond work underway, although relocation of a county fiber line is causing delays.

  • Wallis Street near FM 1093 and FM 359 is being redesigned to prioritize pedestrian safety and reduce vehicle speeds, including features like “bulb-outs” and on-street parking. Fort Bend County is collaborating closely with the City of Fulshear and TxDOT on the final design.

  • Several roadway expansions and safety upgrades are in design phases across areas like Simonton (Boothill Bypass), Falcon Landing Boulevard, and Settegast Ranch Road. These projects aim to accommodate ongoing residential growth and future traffic demand.

What This Means for Residents

For residents of Fort Bend County Precinct 1, these infrastructure updates promise:

  • Improved traffic flow along vital corridors like the Grand Parkway and FM 359.

  • Enhanced pedestrian safety with new sidewalks and upgraded traffic signals.

  • Better access to schools, libraries, and neighborhoods through carefully coordinated design and road extensions.

  • Increased long-term mobility capacity as the area continues to experience residential and commercial development.

As detailed in the March reports, many projects are now entering construction or nearing final design stages, suggesting tangible results will begin to surface throughout 2025 and 2026.
