Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Provides Key Updates on Mobility Projects in January 2025 Meeting

Driving through communities often brings encounters with construction zones, leaving residents wondering when projects will be completed or how they will enhance driving and walking safety. Fort Bend County Precinct 1 tackled these questions in its January 2025 Mobility Projects Monthly Meeting, where updates on various transportation initiatives were shared, highlighting efforts to improve local infrastructure and meet growing mobility needs.

Highlighted Mobility Projects

  1. Greenbusch Road Reconstruction (From Gaston Road to Westheimer Parkway)
    • Scope: Upgrading a two-lane asphalt road to a two-lane concrete road with storm sewers and a new bridge.
    • Status: Construction began on January 6, 2025, with completion expected by June 2026. The $8.4 million project also includes a traffic signal at Spring Green/Pine Mill Ranch intersection.
  2. Huggins Drive Expansion (From FM 359 [Main Street] to Katy Fulshear Road)
    • Scope: Partial replacement and new construction of a three-lane concrete roadway, including utility upgrades.
    • Status: Construction is slated to start in February 2025 after a $6.6 million bid was awarded. Phase 2, focused on turn lanes at FM 359, is in design review.
  3. Brandt Road Project (From McCrary Road to Mason Road)
    • Scope: A three-lane concrete roadway with curb and gutter.
    • Status: Phase 1 is complete, while Phase 2 construction nears completion, with utilities relocated and roundabout streetlights being finalized.
  4. McCrary Road Expansion (From FM 359 to McCrary Road, East-West Section)
    • Scope: Expanding a two-lane asphalt road to a four-lane concrete boulevard, with traffic signals and offsite channel improvements.
    • Status: Construction began in April 2024, with completion expected by September 2025. Utility relocations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to minimize tree removal in collaboration with residents and HOAs.
  5. Pin Oak Road Turn Lane (Pin Oak Road at Katy Flewellen Road)
    • Scope: Adding a dedicated southbound right-turn lane.
    • Status: Construction resumed after delays, with new signals operational and only minor striping corrections pending.
  6. Sidewalk Improvements
    • Scope: Installing five-foot-wide sidewalks across various locations in Precincts 1 and 4.
    • Status: First-phase work is complete, and second-phase construction is progressing along Falcon Landing Boulevard after receiving approval from Harris-Fort Bend MUD 5.
  7. Traffic Signal Installations (Cinco Ranch Boulevard at Cinco Terrace Drive and Cinco Ranch Boulevard at Falcon Landing Boulevard)
    • Scope: Adding new traffic signals at key intersections along Cinco Ranch Boulevard.
    • Status: Plans are complete for some signals, pending HOA and MUD approvals. A signal at Falcon Landing Boulevard will proceed based on traffic warrants, while another signal is postponed.
  8. Ginter Library Access Road (From THP to Ginter Library)
    • Scope: Multi-phase road construction to improve access to a new library site.
    • Status: Construction is complete for Phase 2, while plans for remaining pavement and utilities are expected by the end of January 2025. A right-turn lane off FM 1093 will follow after securing a TxDOT permit.

Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Mobility Bond Projects Status

During a Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Mobility Bond Project Status meeting on January 21, 2025, officials also covered updates on future traffic safety improvements, including upgrades along Rogers Road, Settegast Ranch Road, and Falcon Landing Boulevard. Several designs are nearing completion, and right-of-way acquisitions remain a priority for ongoing developments. See details below.

  • Stella Road (Under Construction)
    • Work has started, with traffic reduced to one-way.
    • Crews are clearing land, excavating for the roadway, and installing storm sewers.
    • The County is working on fixing a pond that was over-dug during earlier work.
  • Willow Lane – Speed Control (Construction Delayed)
    • Current bids for this project are too expensive. Officials are considering adding it to another ongoing project to save money.
  • Wallis Street, From FM 1093 to FM 359 (In Design)
    • Engineers are finalizing designs for drainage and utility upgrades.
    • Right-of-way (ROW) work is ongoing, with 17 of 35 parcels acquired so far.
    • A few properties will need relocation due to construction impacts.
  • Bowser Road, From Winding Stream Drive to Pool Hill Rd (In Design)
    • Plans to upgrade Bowser Road are progressing. Most required properties are already acquired, but a few remain under negotiation.
  • Boothill Bypass in Simonton (Design Complete)
    • Final designs are ready. Once property acquisition is complete, construction can begin.
  • Fulshear Gaston Road Phase 1 (In Design)
    • Engineers are revising plans and preparing documents for land and drainage improvements.
    • Coordination with TxDOT is required for approvals to move forward.
  • Fulshear Gaston Road Phase 2 (In Design)
    • Similar to Phase 1, designs are being finalized. The County is also exploring combining both phases into one project to save time and money.
  • Candela Heights at FM 359 Traffic Signal (In Design)
    • Engineers are finalizing traffic signal plans but need additional studies to secure permits.
  • Pecan Creek Road Bridge Replacement (Ready for Construction)
    • Final plans are done. Bids are being accepted now, and construction is expected to take about a year.
  • Traffic Signals and Safety Improvements (Planning)
    • Plans include adding a right-turn lane on Mason Road at FM 1093.
  • Settegast Ranch Road (Segment 1 & Segment 2 – In Design)
    • Both segments will upgrade the road to a full boulevard with drainage improvements. Crews are waiting for property access to complete surveys and testing.
  • Falcon Landing Boulevard (In Design)
    • Plans include widening the median to add a right-turn lane. Early survey and testing work is finished, and engineers are finalizing preliminary designs.
  • Rogers Road (Segments 1 & 2 – In Design)
    • Both segments will be upgraded to concrete roads with open ditches. Crews are waiting for property access to move forward.
