Fort Bend County Master Gardeners Spring Vegetable & Herb Plant Sale Returns March 7 in Rosenberg
As spring gardening season begins across Fort Bend County, many residents are starting to plan backyard gardens filled with fresh vegetables, herbs, and homegrown flavors. This weekend, local gardeners will have a chance to kick off the season with plants specifically selected to thrive in the region.
The Fort Bend County Master Gardeners will host their annual Spring Vegetable and Herb Plant Sale on Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 9 a.m. to noon, or until sold out, at the Bud O’Shieles Community Center, located at 1330 Band Rd, Rosenberg, TX 77471.
The popular event draws gardeners from across Rosenberg, Richmond, Sugar Land, Katy, Fulshear, and surrounding Fort Bend County communities looking for healthy starter plants that are proven to perform well in Southeast Texas conditions.
For many local residents, the sale has become a seasonal tradition — offering a chance to stock up on spring garden essentials while supporting a volunteer program dedicated to horticulture education throughout the county.
Plants Selected for Success in Fort Bend County Gardens
Unlike many retail plant selections, the vegetables and herbs offered at the Master Gardeners sale are carefully chosen by volunteers who understand the local climate and growing conditions.
The varieties available are either recommended for Fort Bend County by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service or successfully grown by Master Gardener volunteers in their own home gardens.
Gardeners attending the sale will find a wide range of spring planting favorites, including:
- 15 varieties of tomatoes, from large slicing varieties to cherry tomatoes
- 15 varieties of peppers, ranging from sweet bell peppers to hotter chili varieties
- Eggplant varieties including heirloom and heat-tolerant selections
- Additional vegetables such as Swiss chard and moringa
- Culinary herbs including basil, cilantro, parsley, thyme, oregano and more
According to the plant guide prepared for the event, many varieties are chosen for their ability to perform well in Texas heat and humidity, a key factor for successful gardening in the region.
Some tomato varieties, for example, are specifically noted for their heat tolerance and disease resistance, helping gardeners maintain productive plants throughout the growing season.
Residents can also review the complete list of available vegetables and herbs, including detailed plant descriptions and growing tips, in the official plant guide: Helpful Guidance for Gardeners
In addition to purchasing plants, visitors can also speak with knowledgeable Master Gardener volunteers during the event.
Master Gardeners are trained volunteers with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service who receive extensive education in horticultural practices. After completing training, they share research-based gardening knowledge with the community through workshops, demonstration gardens, plant clinics, and educational outreach programs.
Throughout the year, Fort Bend County Master Gardeners help residents learn how to:
- Grow vegetables successfully in Southeast Texas
- Improve soil health and garden productivity
- Manage pests responsibly
- Choose plants suited to the local climate
- Create pollinator-friendly landscapes
For many first-time gardeners, events like the spring plant sale provide a chance to ask questions and receive guidance from experienced volunteers who understand local growing conditions.

Supporting Community Gardening Education
All proceeds from the plant sale directly support the mission of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Fort Bend County and the Fort Bend County Master Gardeners’ educational programs.
Those funds help sustain year-round horticulture education initiatives that provide research-based gardening resources and outreach to Fort Bend County residents.
Importantly, the program operates through volunteer service.
No funds from the plant sale are used to pay volunteers or for activities unrelated to the organization’s educational mission.
Instead, the proceeds support programs designed to help residents grow healthier gardens, conserve resources, and make informed landscaping decisions.
A Timely Opportunity as Spring Planting Begins
Early March marks one of the most important windows for spring vegetable planting in Fort Bend County and the greater Houston region.
Warm-season vegetables like tomatoes and peppers benefit from being planted early enough to establish strong roots before the peak of summer heat arrives.
For local gardeners, the Master Gardeners sale offers a convenient way to find plants already suited to the area’s climate while connecting with others who share a passion for gardening.
