Falcon Ranch Advises Web Worm Treatment Ideas to Combat Infestation

June 18 2024

As many of you know by now, due to the early rise of temperatures, moisture, and heavy rain, we have been dealing with a large infestation of web worms, tent caterpillars and now yellow striped caterpillars throughout Houston and surrounding areas. The HOA is treating all HOA trees that have been infected however, we also want to be sure our residents’ trees are also treated. We have included a few easy treatments and ways for our residents to treat their trees.
  1. Physical removal and opening of these nests on low hanging limbs with a broom or stick to expose them to their natural predators.

  2. Foliar application Spraying Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) which is a natural bacterial insecticide specifically made for caterpillars.

  3. Spraying insecticidal soap or horticultural oils are another environmentally friendly option for control that should be applied early in the morning or towards sundown to avoid the high heat.

These products can be found at your local hardware store. Applications can be done 14 days apart if needed. We encourage regular monitoring of your trees, plants, and turf to detect activity at an early stage and prevent serious damage.

Sincerely,

The Falcon Ranch Board of Directors
