Escape the Heat, Get Free Food and Water at These Harris County Precinct 3 and 4 Cooling Centers

July 10 2024

Updated: Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 8:59 AM

The US National Weather Service Houston-Galveston has forecasted high temperatures in the upper 80s today, along with scattered thunderstorms. To beat the heat and stay safe while any residents continue to grapple with lingering power outages as a result of Hurricane Beryl, cooling centers are open across Harris County Precincts 3 and 4 today.

In Precinct 4, five community centers are designated as cooling centers, providing much-needed respite from the heat with wi-fi between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Pets are welcome but they must be in a crate. Here are their locations:

  1. Bayland Community Center: 6400 Bissonnet Street, Houston, TX 77074
  2. Hockley Community Center: 28515 Old Washington Rd, Hockley, TX 77447
  3. Peckham Aquatic & Fitness Center: 5597 Gardenia Ln., Katy, TX 77493
  4. Radack Community Center: 18650 Clay Rd., Houston, TX 77084
  5. Weekley Community Center: 8440 Greenhouse Rd., Cypress, TX 77433
Note that food and water is being distributed at the following locations:
  1. Friday, July 12 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Monday, July 15 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Bayland Community Center
  2. Saturday, July 13 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Radack Community Center

For additional information on these cooling centers, residents can contact the Community Assistance Division at 832-927-4444 or visit the Harris County Precinct 4 website at cp4.harriscountytx.gov/Community-Centers

Several Harris County Precinct 3 community centers are open during their regular hours of 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, allowing residents to charge their devices, enjoy free Wi-Fi, and importantly, stay cool in an air-conditioned environment. They will also offer food and water distribution. Here are the centers that remain open:

  1. Crosby Community Center: 409 Hare Rd, Crosby, TX 77532
  2. Big Stone Lodge: 709 Riley Fuzzel Road, Spring, Texas 77373
  3. Trini Mendenhall Community Center: 1414 Wirt Rd, Houston, TX 77055
  4. Juergen's Hall Community Center: 26026 Hempstead Rd, Cypress, TX 77429

The following Harris County Precinct 3 community centers will continue to distribute water and food today, while supplies last.  However, due to power issues, they will close after supplies run out:

  1. Barrett Station Community Center: 808 1/2 Magnolia Ave, Crosby, TX 77532
  2. May Community Center: 2100 Wolf Rd, Huffman, TX 77336
  3. San Jacinto Community Center: 604 Highland Woods Dr, Highlands, TX 77562
  4. George H.W. Bush Community Center: 6827 Cypresswood Dr, Spring, TX 77379

For more specific information, residents can contact these community centers directly via the Precinct 3 website at pct3.com/Explore/Community-Centers

As we face another sweltering day, these cooling centers have become more vital as many residents await power restoration, providing a safe and comfortable place for residents to escape the rising temperatures. Stay safe, stay hydrated and when possible, stay cool.
