Electrify America to Build EV Charging Station at H-E-B Near US 290 and Barker Cypress in Cypress

February 16 2026

Drivers in the Cypress area will soon have a new reason to plug in while running errands.

Electrify America, the nation’s largest open Hyper-Fast EV charging network, is planning a new electric vehicle charging station at the H-E-B located at 24224 Northwest Fwy, Cypress, TX 77429, near the intersection of US 290 and Barker Cypress Road. The project is scheduled to begin construction on December 15, 2026, with completion expected by June 17, 2027.

The $600,000 project will bring a 4,000-square-foot Electrify America EVCS (Electric Vehicle Charging Station) to one of Cypress’ busiest retail centers, installing new dispenser and power unit equipment designed to support the area’s growing number of EV drivers.

Powering Up Along the US 290 Corridor

Strategically positioned at H-E-B along US 290, the station will offer convenient access for residents in Coles Crossing, Stone Gate, Towne Lake, Fairfield and surrounding northwest Harris County neighborhoods, as well as commuters traveling between Cypress and Houston.

Like other Electrify America installations, the Cypress site is expected to feature Hyper-Fast DC chargers capable of delivering up to 350 kW. Depending on the vehicle, that level of charging can significantly reduce wait times, with some models able to recharge in as little as 20–30 minutes under optimal conditions.

The station will support a wide range of electric vehicles, including models from Ford, Hyundai, Volkswagen, BMW, Audi and others, and is part of Electrify America’s broader coast-to-coast charging network.

Meeting Surging EV Demand

The timing reflects what’s happening nationally and here in Texas. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the number of registered electric vehicles in Texas more than doubled between 2020 and 2023 — and growth has continued since.

Electrify America reported that drivers completed more than 20 million charging sessions across its network in 2025 alone, a 21% increase over the previous year. The company also surpassed 5,600 chargers across North America, underscoring how quickly public charging infrastructure is expanding to meet demand.

As more drivers adopt electric vehicles for daily commutes and regional travel, fast-charging stations near highways and retail centers have become an essential piece of the transportation landscape. Locations like H-E-B at US 290 and Barker Cypress place charging access where people already spend time — making it easier to integrate into everyday routines.

Built for Long-Term Growth

Electrify America operates in 47 states and the District of Columbia and has committed more than $2 billion nationwide toward Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure. Many of its stations incorporate advanced energy systems and are backed by renewable energy matching through certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).

The Cypress project joins other recent Electrify America developments across northwest Houston, including a planned station at The Commons in Willowbrook, gradually strengthening charging coverage along major corridors such as US 290, Highway 249 and FM 1960.

What Happens Next

Construction at the Cypress H-E-B location is expected to begin in mid-December 2026. If timelines remain on track, the station could be operational by early summer 2027.

As Cypress continues to grow, projects like this reflect how transportation infrastructure is adapting alongside it — one charging station at a time.
