Don McCoy Wins City of Fulshear Mayoral Race
Don McCoy has been unofficially declared the new mayor of the City of Fulshear., according to unofficial election results posted on June 15, 2024. McCoy, having served as the President and CEO of the Fulshear-Katy Area Chamber of Commerce since its inception in 2013, brings to the mayoral office a unique perspective on the relationship between local governance and business.
The unofficial results from the election, posted Saturday, June 15, 2024, show McCoy's victory over Joel Patterson for the mayor's office, securing 62.31% of votes over Patterson's 37.69% of votes. McCoy's win will be officially confirmed in an upcoming City Council Meeting on June 18, 2024. City of Fulshear mayoral terms last two years, with a maximum of three terms.
McCoy, in his mayoral candidacy announcement, emphasized his desire to balance both roles to create a more vibrant and prosperous Fulshear. “The dual roles of being both Mayor and the President/CEO of the Chamber would allow me to have a unique and comprehensive perspective on the needs and opportunities in our community,” said McCoy. “As Mayor, I would be directly involved in local governance, policy-making, and community engagement, enabling me to directly address the concerns and interests of Fulshear citizens.”
Don McCoy is a multifaceted marketing professional with lengthy experience in creative marketing, project management, promotions, public relations, and event planning. Beyond business, Don is a seasoned actor, director, producer, spokesperson, master of ceremonies, and motivational speaker, with notable contributions to film and television. A graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University in Management/Marketing and Spanish, Don's diverse talents extend to community leadership roles, including serving on boards and actively participating in organizations like Second Baptist 1463 and the Katy Rotary Club. His global perspective, shaped by living in several countries and speaking fluent Spanish, enriches his contributions to both local and international communities.
McCoy went on to speak about the value of his ongoing role with the now-renamed Fulshear Regional Chamber of Commerce. “Simultaneously, my ongoing work with the Chamber would keep me intimately connected with all local businesses, understanding their needs, challenges, and potential for growth. This would foster a synergistic relationship between local government and business, allowing us to create a more prosperous and vibrant community together.”
Prior to McCoy's win, City of Fulshear Aaron Groff served as mayor through three terms reaching the maximum time allowed to serve in the position. Aaron Groff, elected Mayor of Fulshear in 2018, previously served on the Fulshear Development Corporation. A Texas native, he moved to Fulshear in 2012, holds degrees in Psychology and Theology from Wayland Baptist University, and leads Abigail's Place while running Groff Consulting and contributing to The Fellowship of Cinco Ranch.
