Discover Das Rec: New Braunfels’ Indoor Fitness and Fun Destination for Families and All Ages

January 20 2026

If you’ve ever driven down Landa Street and wondered what goes on inside the large, modern building known as Das Rec, you’re not alone. Since opening in 2018, the New Braunfels Recreation Center—better known by its German-inspired nickname—has become a central hub for wellness, youth sports, and community events. But many local residents still haven’t stepped inside.

For those new to the area or simply curious about what Das Rec offers, now’s a great time to explore one of New Braunfels’ most valuable community resources.

What Is Das Rec?

Built as part of a voter-approved bond project, Das Rec is a 75,000+ square-foot indoor recreation center that serves residents of all ages and abilities. Whether you're looking to cool off with your kids, start a new fitness routine, or find structured sports programs, Das Rec is designed to bring the community together under one roof.

Located at 345 Landa St, New Braunfels, TX 78130, the facility is operated by the City of New Braunfels in partnership with local organizations including New Braunfels ISD. From toddlers to seniors, the center offers a welcoming and accessible space for all.

What You’ll Find Inside

  • Two Indoor Pools: One for lap swimming and training, and a second leisure pool complete with a waterslide and splash area for children.
  • Fitness Floor: A full gym setup with cardio equipment, free weights, machines, and functional fitness zones.
  • Indoor Track: Perfect for walking or jogging indoors—especially during hot or rainy Texas days.
  • Gym Courts: Used for basketball, volleyball, and other recreational sports.
  • Multipurpose Rooms: Home to fitness classes, youth camps, clinics, and wellness programs.
  • Child Watch Services: Parents can drop off their little ones in a supervised play area while they exercise or attend a class.

You Don’t Need a Membership to Enjoy It

One of the biggest misconceptions is that Das Rec is only for members. In fact, the center welcomes non-members through affordable day passes, making it a great option for families, visitors, or those who just want to try it out before committing.

Current Day Pass Rates
  • Family (up to 4 people): $24
  • Adult (16+): $12

New Membership Policy Now in Effect

For those considering joining as a member, Das Rec updated its membership policy on January 1, 2025:

  • All account holders are now required to have a membership photo on file.
  • All Day Pass users must set up a quick, one-time account at Guest Services.
  • Proof of New Braunfels residency—such as a valid driver’s license, NBU bill, or lease agreement—is needed to qualify for resident pricing.

More Than a Gym—A True Community Space

What really sets Das Rec apart is its role as a community hub. Throughout the year, the center hosts youth sports leagues, group fitness classes, seasonal camps, swim lessons, and even birthday parties and swim meets.

Programs are offered for all ages and include popular activities like:

  • Yoga and HIIT classes
  • Pickleball and basketball
  • Summer camps for kids
  • Lifeguard and swim certification courses

It’s also a safe, weather-proof space for families to spend quality time together, especially during hot summers or rainy days.

Whether you’re a longtime New Braunfels resident or just moved to the area, Das Rec invites you to drop by, take a tour, or spend a day exploring everything it has to offer. With flexible options and something for everyone, it's not just a rec center—it’s a place where the New Braunfels community comes together.

For hours, events, or more information, stop by Das Rec on Landa Street or visit the City of New Braunfels website at newbraunfels.gov/3754/Das-Rec
