Cypress Winds Joins LSC-CyFair for Free Holiday Concert and New Community Music Partnership

December 10 2025

A new musical partnership is taking center stage this December as Cypress Winds, a recently formed community concert band, joins forces with Lone Star College-CyFair for a free public performance and ongoing collaboration.

The Cypress-area community is invited to celebrate the holiday season with an evening of festive music at LSC-CyFair’s Main Stage Theatre on Wednesday, December 18 at 7 p.m. This family-friendly concert, hosted by the college’s Music Department, marks the debut of the Cypress Winds-LSC-CyFair partnership—an initiative designed to unite music educators, students, and the public through shared performances and educational enrichment.

The upcoming event promises a vibrant setlist of eight pieces, including timeless holiday carols and instrumental classics such as LeRoy Anderson’s crowd-pleasing “Sleigh Ride.” It's a seasonal treat for anyone searching for things to do in Cypress this December or free Christmas concerts in Houston suburbs.

A Band Born from Local Music Passion

Founded in 2024, Cypress Winds is made up largely of music educators from the Cypress and Klein area school districts. The ensemble is co-directed by two highly respected, now-retired band directors—Tom Harrington of Cypress Woods High School and Todd Clearwater of Klein Oak High School.

Though the group is relatively new, their mission resonates deeply: to create exceptional music, foster community connections, and promote arts education. Their collaboration with Lone Star College-CyFair reflects those goals.

A Partnership with Purpose

Joshua Estrada, Fine Arts Production Manager at LSC-CyFair, said the partnership grew naturally from Cypress Winds’ interest in using the college’s Center for the Arts for rehearsals and performances. But it quickly became clear this arrangement offered much more than just access to a venue.

“This is an ideal opportunity to strengthen our relationship with Cy-Fair ISD and the area’s music professionals,” said Estrada. “We’ll be inviting Cypress Winds musicians to participate in our applied instrumental studios and student ensembles, meaning students will not only learn in the classroom but also perform side-by-side with seasoned educators.”

From an educational standpoint, the partnership also provides a unique recruiting advantage. By engaging local music instructors directly in the college’s programs, LSC-CyFair can spotlight its degrees, scholarships, and facilities to an influential network of music advocates.
