Cypress Ranch High School Junior Earns Top Finish in Statewide UIL Theatrical Design Contest
Cypress Ranch High School’s theatre program continues to shine on the state stage as junior Evany Ramirez captured fourth place in Costume Design at the 2025 UIL State Theatrical Design Contest, held May 16–17 at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center.
Ramirez’s submission was inspired by the 2025 contest prompt: Sean Mendelson’s Axoloris: The Musical—a whimsical, futuristic musical that challenged high school designers across Texas to use emerging technology, artistic movements, and family-friendly themes to create their theatrical vision.
The competition drew entries in Set Design, Costume Design, Hair/Makeup, Marketing, and Group Design. Ramirez’s innovative costume stood out among hundreds of entries, reflecting both technical skill and imaginative flair.

“We are incredibly proud of our students for the imagination, dedication and professionalism they brought to this year’s UIL Theatrical Design Contest,” said Kelley Hughes, Cy-Fair ISD coordinator of secondary fine arts. “Their work demonstrates artistic excellence including collaboration, visual communication, problem solving and technology integration.”
Ramirez’s fourth-place finish is a reflection of the countless hours she poured into her craft—bringing to life a creative vision that blended futuristic ideas, artistic depth, and technical skill. Her success is a powerful reminder that when passion meets perseverance, remarkable things can happen—both on and off the stage.
