Cy-Hope Extends Reach to Waller Area, Enriching Lives of Underprivileged Children
As part of its continued mission to provide much-needed services to underprivileged children, Cy-Hope has recently expanded into the Waller area with the opening of its second location at 1201 A Street. This expansion, which has been in the works since the summer of 2023, was prompted by outreach from Waller ISD personnel, community leaders, and an opportunity for collaboration with Waller United Methodist Church’s Pastor, Cathy Beasley.
"We were able to bring several of our key programs to this location, including an after-school program and our Backpack Feeding Program," explains Lynda Dierker, executive director of Cy-Hope. "The expansion also allows us to collaborate more effectively with partners such as Tomball Regional Health Foundation."
The new location, which boasts 2,400 square feet, will provide a variety of services primarily for school aged students. These include counseling for all ages, distribution of food bags through the Backpack Feeding Program for students qualifying for free or reduced lunches, and a comprehensive after-school program with a full schedule.
"One of our primary goals for the new location is to offer emotional and mental health support to families in the Waller area," said Dierker. "We also wish to serve as a convenient distribution point for our Backpack Feeding Program."
With this expansion, Cy-Hope aims not only to grow its programs but also to identify and address gaps in community services. This move embodies the organization's enduring commitment to making life better for kids, a mission that began back in 2010 under the leadership of Dr. Godfrey Hubert and Foundry United Methodist Church. Since its founding, Cy-Hope evolved into a vital hub of support for underserved children across the Cy-Fair region with programs like summer camps, food pantries, baseball workshops led by former Astros All-Star pitcher and manager, Larry Dierker, community centers for tutoring and mentoring, counseling, music initiatives, and financial assistance for college and career readiness.
"This expansion into Waller is just the next step in our long-term goal to bring hope and much-needed services to as many children as we can," said Dierker. "We're excited to have a physical presence in the area, and we believe this will greatly increase awareness of our programs."
While the interior of the new facility is still under construction, Cy-Hope anticipates move-in to occur in March 2024. Residents interested in services or volunteering at the new Waller location can reach out to Cy-Hope through their website, and are encouraged to sign up for the organization’s newsletter.
