Cy Falls High School Art Students Paint Mural at HCA Hospital North Cypress
By Jared Martinez and Destiny Sanchez, Cypress Falls High School (A High School Journalism Network Collaboration)
The Cypress Falls High School visual arts program designed and painted a wall mural on Feb. 12 to honor and represent the work of the emergency medical services (EMS) employees at HCA Houston Hospital’s North Cypress location.
Since adopting Cypress Falls in 2019, HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress has partnered with the campus on various initiatives. This year, the visual arts program was given the opportunity to give back to the community by painting a wall mural that would represent the commitment of the EMS staff working at HCA Hospital North Cypress.

Cypress Falls art teacher Heather Mix thought this would be a great opportunity to allow students to practice their art skills while showing appreciation. “I am so incredibly proud of my students,” Mix said. “It was a gift to watch them design the initial idea in the beginning and then execute the mural as a team in such a tight space. The best part about watching them create the mural was the bond they began to build among each other. This is a memory that we will never forget.”
Four students volunteered to submit design ideas to HCA board members to select the winning piece. After the design was selected, students then presented five color scheme options to also be selected. The selected design was created by Cypress Falls sophomore Valeria Wilshusen Perez. The design was meant to display an environment of community that represents the HCA EMS staff.

“The team at HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, along with our EMS partners, deeply appreciate the time and dedication the students from Cy Falls High School invested in painting the mural,” said Carley Childs, HCA director of communications and community engagement. “It has been widely admired by everyone.”
The mural was placed in the middle of the EMS lounge wall for all to enjoy and appreciate.
