Cy-Fair Women's Club's 1-2-3 Service Projects Continue
1-2-3 Service Projects continue through October and November. Cy-Fair Women’s Club (CWC) is busy helping our community. With multiple service projects, we have something that interests everyone.
Earlier this week, we delivered “a little bit of sunshine to brighten your day” benefitting Cy-Springs High School teachers and staff. In August and September, our members had fun locating and donating everything YELLOW including single serve grab-and-go snacks and goodies. We also filled our yellow boxes with specific basic supplies needed by every classroom — pens, pencils, colored pencils and expo markers. Dr. Cheryl Henry, Cy-Springs High School principal, and her staff were very appreciative of the eleven boxes of “sunshine”.
CWC has several collections in October and November for two of our local food pantries.
300 boxes of Macaroni and Cheese for Cy-Fair Helping Hands each month. 400 boxes of brownie mix for Mesa-Outreach’s holiday boxes in November. As we think of our own holiday plans, we often forget or don’t realize how many people are struggling. Simple food items are precious and can help make the holiday special for those in need.
Our mini-service project in November will be putting together 100 compassion bags for Cy-Fair Helping Hands. The compassion bags are used in their ministry to the homeless. Our members have been donating canned pasta, chili, or hearty soups, snack puddings, snack fruit cups, sandwich crackers, packets of tuna, small cans of beans, veggies, or beans, snack peanut butter, small packet of crackers or chips, picnic pack cutlery, ziploc bags and juice boxes.
Our next hands-on service project, breast cancer pillows, is our November meeting program after our elections. This is a long time project of the CWC. It began many years ago when a former CWC president was diagnosed with breast cancer. The pillows are used by breast cancer procedure patients. The pillows help relieve the pressure of a drain. In recent years, the pillows have provided comfort to nursing home residents. Cardiac patients use the pillows when coughing to press against their chest and help hold stitches.
Another hands-on service project scheduled is preparing lunches for volunteers at a Habitat for Humanity build site. The lunches will include sandwiches, snacks, fruit, and drinks. We may not be builders but this is another way of helping Habitat for Humanity building homes.
All CWC collections are voluntary. The variety of service projects offers members with a selection of options in community service.
About Cy-Fair Women's Club
Cy-Fair Women’s Club (CWC) is a 501(c)3 organization serving the greater Cy-Fair community in northwest Harris County in Houston, Texas. Begun in 1982 as the Copperfield Women’s Club, our mission to serve the needs of our community remain as strong as the day we first came together. Our hard-working, determined members are dedicated to fundraising and community volunteering. The popular market event Shop ‘til You Drop (STYD) is our primary fundraiser held annually on the second Saturday in September. The funds we have raised through the shopping event, concession stand volunteering, sponsorship, membership dues and donations have allowed us to annually provide over $22,000 in high school scholarships and over $40,000 to local charities. “Bringing women together to better our community!” is why we exist and how we continue to grow.
